Mitre peak pic[edit]

Pretty sure that photo is not mitre peak (unless its from the back?). Does not look like any other shot I have seen of it, can anyone confirm?Armin-t (talk) 08:42, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very nice spotting! It appears the original source [1] is tagged under Pakistan, and further research discovers w:Mitre Peak, Pakistan. Feel free to find a correct photo somewhere else for this guide. JamesA >talk 09:23, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sandfly repellant[edit]

I've a favour to ask of you, Armin-t.

You recently added the phrase: "...bug repellant is recommended as the the sand flies here can be aggressive". Could you (preferably in secret by e-mail so that I can subsequently make my re-sale fortune) tell me which formulation[2] actually stops these little critters (namu in Māori, or Austrosimulium ungulatum in scientific nomenclature)? -- Alice 05:57, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

From my week spent in Charles sound, head to toe clothing and a bandanna around the face is about it. The lovely Deet slows them, but not by much. Armin-t (talk) 21:57, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, that was my take too. Lot's of gunky stuff diminishes the swarm at Sandfly Point but nothing keeps them all away. I have a green net bag I put over my head with a drawstring that goes around my neck. A complete, surrounding 360° circle of penguins is also effective - but there has been a distinct shortage in Southland of the trained specially dogs needed to keep the penguin circle intact and orderly, for quite a while now... -- Alice 22:30, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Guide?[edit]

What needs to be done to this article for it to become a guide? I'd like to nominate it for dotm once it gets upgraded as NZ is severely underfeatured. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:52, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
