Purpose of this phrasebook[edit]

What is the rationale for this phrasebook? Wouldn't travellers essentially be using English here, not Najavo? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:17, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From w:Navajo language: "Navajo is spoken primarily in the Southwestern United States, especially on the Navajo Nation. It is one of the most widely spoken Native American languages and is the most widely spoken north of the Mexico–United States border, with almost 170,000 Americans speaking Navajo at home as of 2011." The last time I was here, I did not have the need to use any other language apart from English. And keyword: "almost 170,000 Americans speaking Navajo at home as of 2011". Or more specifically "at home". There's no indication that it's spoken generally in the public. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:36, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No-one is saying it's essential for you to speak Navajo if you are just a short-term visitor, but it sure seems like a legitimate topic to me. Learning just a bit of Navajo might be useful or beneficial in certain circumstances. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:17, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You could, but... not if it were in this article only teaches you about ten phrases. Probably as what I mentioned about American colonialism, if there were no useful travel content here, I may as well nominate it for deletion at the end of spring. Well, phrasebooks that have very little content have never been deleted for that reason. This would be a policy discussion, so I would suggest for you to bring it up somewhere other than Vfd. So far, you're bringing it up here, which is good. If you wanted to bring it up elsewhere, Wikivoyage talk:Phrasebook Expedition seems most topical. Also, don't conflate the two issues. "It's not a useful subject and look how short it is!" sounds like a joke. I suggest you make the argument based on length, rather than the legitimacy of the topic. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:17, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
