There used to be two separate disambig pages for "Newcastle" and "New Castle". I've just combined them, making New Castle a redirect.(WT-en) Pashley 02:34, 24 October 2009 (EDT)

Move to Newcastle?

[edit]

Currently, our page at Newcastle is occupied by the one in Australia. I would question whether that city is "so much more famous" than its namesake, Newcastle upon Tyne in England (usually known as just "Newcastle" when unambiguous); in fact, I strongly doubt it.

I suggest, like Birmingham, that this disambig be moved to Newcastle, and that the city in Australia be moved to Newcastle (New South Wales) (currently a redirect). Also, we don't have to always follow Wikipedia, but I note that W:Newcastle hosts the disambiguation, with the NSW city at W:Newcastle, New South Wales.

Worth noting that the Australian city was moved from Newcastle (New South Wales) in 2021. A discussion was underway, but no consensus reached before the move. The main reason for the move seems to have been to make the title of potential future district articles shorter.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 14:11, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
As the one who moved this, I support moving this back. I don't think we'll have districts for Newcastle as our Newcastle article only covers the City of Newcastle (somewhat organised like Greater Brisbane) but if we were to have a district-like structure, I think I'd favour having a Greater Newcastle article instead of splitting Newcastle into districts.. Also agree, on Wikipedia there has been more support for treating Newcastle upon Tyne as primary but I don't think there is a primary topic give the number of others. Crouch, Swale (talk) 11:13, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
