It's not called "the PCH" by locals, just PCH. Although Southern Californians do tend to say "the 5" "the 405", etc., it's not the case with PCH. Only non-natives make this mistake. Also, it's only called PCH in SoCal, north of LA it becomes Cabrillo Hwy and then Shoreline Hwy.

Actually that's not true, I live in LA and many locals refer to it both ways (WT-en) cacahuate talk 01:59, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
