Routebox on Stanley (Tasmania)[edit]

Swept in from the pub

I'm currently in the process of adding routeboxes to various Tasmanian destinations and this one was one that made me stumble upon, but before I start, here's a map of the highways near Stanley, for those who need it.

Normal Wikivoyage convention is that we only include routes that actually pass through or terminate the settlement. In Stanley's case, the only highway in Stanley is the Stanley Highway (B21), and standard Wikivoyage conventions is we would only have an entry for B21.

However, the catch is that the Stanley Highway is only 7 kilometres between Stanley and the Bass Highway (A2), a major A-route which passes way more towns than this 7-km highway (A-routes in Tasmania are similar to British A-routes but are more narrower and have higher speed limits). It's even mentioned on signs on the Bass Highway as far away as this one that's 94 km from the town.

Unclear on what to do, I decided to ignore the standard Wikivoyage convention for routeboxes and instead list destinations on A2 instead of B21, but listing the route as "B21 (towards A2)" per WV:TTCF. Since this defies normal Wikivoyage conventions, I'm starting this discussion to see what everyone else thinks: should similar cases like this be allowed, should this be treated as an exception to the norm, or should the routebox be amended to only have the destinations on B21 (which is just Stanley and farmland)?

I think that is ok for Stanley. Howver I am not sure that is is helpful to list stanley on the route bos for other places - somebody travelling from Brurnie to Arthur River might not want to stop in Stanley for lunch. Does the A2/B21 junction have a name? - if so making the route box show "Junctionville for Stanley" might be clearer. AlasdairW (talk) 14:41, 12 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@AlasdairW: Thanks for the clarification! Regarding the intersection, a search on OSM unfortunately doesn't indicate anything apart from the fact that it's the intersection between A2, B21 and C219. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 07:11, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
My impression is that we do include destinations some way from the route. Not everybody will make a detour for lunch in Stanley, but many won't stop in some minor towns directly on the highway. As long as the Get in of Stanly makes it clear it isn't directly on the root, the town is signposted from the highway, and there are no special reasons including it would create a mess, I don't think including it is problematic. Usually highways don't pass through cities, but are built to pass by, and leaving out the cities because of that would be plain silly. I don't see why including Stanley would be any different (7 km would be much somewhere in Ruhr, but not here). –LPfi (talk) 08:15, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
