Banner
[edit]This page banner was recently changed by the Italian community, but I am not sure if their decision was based on a detailed, first-hand knowledge of the region. The problem with the church in the new banner is that it is very generic and can be found in every region south of Moscow. The crop itself is also far from ideal, because it cuts the building into pieces: a piece of the bell-tower on the left, a piece of the central dome in the middle, and some random tower on the right. The old banner has a much better crop, but the key rationale for choosing the tractor lied in the common perception of Tambov Oblast as a pure agricultural region, where there is not much to see, but where great vegetables are grown. Therefore, I have strong preference for the old banner.

- The Italian community can have whatever banner they like, but I agree that for this wiki the old banner is more interesting. One or both of our communities can deviate from the Wikidata banner if needed.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:44, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I prefer the old banner, too, for the reasons stated above, but the new banner is showing, so let's change that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 16:27, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi all, I confirm that in it:voy has been discussed to choose the most appropriate banner and has been chosen the second one. I can't state if the choice has been done by each person, based on the knowledge of the area or just for the beauty of the picture, but that's the result.
- The banner change on this en:voy page is due to the fact that we typically align it:voy banner on Wikidata jointly to the fact that in this article has been specified a standard generic banner, and the template:pagebanner in this default case, use the Wikidata banner. To solve this "issue", is enough to change

into{{pagebanner|Tractor near Tatarsky Wall - 3.jpg}}
according to the en:voy preference. --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:38, 18 December 2020 (UTC)- Right now there is support for the old banner also in Russian Wikivoyage, so I tend to restore it on Wikidata and let Italian colleagues re-define it locally if they will. --Alexander (talk) 19:12, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I think that to avoid future discussion like this one, we can propose to change the wikidata property to accept one banner for each language version, so each community can have its own banner on wikidata, because it would be difficult to have a multilingual/multiversion discusson (Wikivoayge Lounge on meta is not used since many years and most of the people not even know about its existence). --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:44, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Then you don't really need Wikidata, because information is not shared between different projects ;) --Alexander (talk) 20:15, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- From one point of you you are correct, but from another there could be the possibility to store anytime different banner version in wikidata and allow any language version to compare alternatives approved in other language versions. Furthermore it would be possibile to store also the description/caption in wikidata. What do you think? --Andyrom75 (talk) 20:27, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- I think I am neutral. --Alexander (talk) 20:41, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
