User talk:(WT-en) Whatsinaname
Hello, Whatsinaname! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 13:10, 1 January 2010 (EST)
- Thanks for your edits to Padangbai. Much appreciated. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 13:10, 1 January 2010 (EST)
So I can keep the map up to date, where in Jungut Batu is Ketut's Losmen? I don't know it. Thanks. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:51, 2 January 2010 (EST)
You can find Ketut on this map (nr. 22): http://www.baliblog.com/files/2007/05/jungutbatu_mushroom_bay.gif (WT-en) Whatsinaname 23:18, 16 January 2010 (EST)
- Thanks for that. Very helpful. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:37, 17 January 2010 (EST)
Bali Edits
[edit]Thanks for all your edits to various Bali articles. Greatly appreciated. When you add a new listing which is not well known, can you please drop a note to my talk page describing where it is? Eg Kembali Beach Bungalows in Amed. As with Ketut's Losmen which I mention above, I have never heard of it and I cannot keep the maps up to date unless I know where these places are. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 03:24, 9 January 2010 (EST)

- Let me just join the choir and say it's really nice to see so many solid edits from a new user, great work! --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 16:50, 14 January 2010 (EST)
Kuta (Lombok)
[edit]Thanks for your edits to Kuta (Lombok), it's greatly appreciated! --(WT-en) globe-trotter 20:15, 10 January 2010 (EST)
Communication
[edit]You are doing some really good work but I wish you would communicate! --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:00, 15 January 2010 (EST)
I have no problem communicating, if I just knew how. I hope this is the ways to do it.
- Yep, use your talk page, just like this :) Once again thanks very much for your work on various Bali and Lombok articles. If you want to reply to any points made, you can do so here or to the talk page of the user who made the edit. Eg my talk page is User talk:(WT-en) Burmesedays. If you are unclear about anything else here please do not hesitate to ask. On my points about location for some of your listings, I would be really grateful for a reply. I drew all of the Bali article maps and would really like to keep them up to date. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:45, 16 January 2010 (EST)
Perama Buses
[edit]Before adding any more detailed Perama destination information in the Bali articles, can we please discuss this. My view is that this is probably not necessary as it involves information repeated in different articles. Better I think would be to describe the Perama network in the main Bali article. One time and done. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:45, 16 January 2010 (EST)
I do not completely agree. Of course things should not be doubled. But in the Bali article it is only mentioned that Perama serves the budget traveller well in Bali and beyond, and they have offices in several major tourist destinations on the island. As a user preparing my trip (not a writer) I wanted to know how I could get from Sanur to Padang Bai. It did not come into my mind to look for that information in the Bali article. I just looked at the articles on Sanur and on Padang Bai. And I guess other travellers will do the same.
- Fair comment. Let's run with the Perama information going into the sub-articles and see how it pans out. If it gets too repetitive, then later it is not hard to develop a detailed Perama section in the main Bali article. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 20:04, 16 January 2010 (EST)
- As an aside, please could you sign your messages on a talk page by appending 4 tildes, or just by using the signature button on the edit toobar. This allows evryone to know who is saying what. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 20:04, 16 January 2010 (EST)
Thanks for your message. The Get out section is intended for a couple of bulleted suggestions for the next destination, not for detailed departure info. If you look around at some of the more developed WT articles, you will see what I mean. Lembar is an odd case, as it is essentially a point of transport and little else, I have wondered whether it is even an article according to the WT definition. If it was closer to a main town or city then it would be better dealt with as part of that. But it does not fit that easily with Mataram for example. The key point is that virtually all travellers arrive at Lembar and immediately carry on to their true destination. So, leaving is part of arriving, if that does not sound too odd. In the same way that getting from an airport to town would be in the Get in section of any article, then it should be in this case also. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 20:04, 16 January 2010 (EST)
- there is a bit more explanation about what goes where in the Small city template, don't worry, it's a silly name and I made the mistake when I made made my first edits --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 20:21, 16 January 2010 (EST)
In general I agree. But in the case of Lembar it is a different story. It is no problem getting into that city. But it is a real hassle to get out. From what I have read and heard it a problem getting a taxi from Lembar Harbour. You can compare it with the Bangsal maffia. That's why I think it makes sense to give more information about getting out of Lembar. That same information does not fit in into the Get in section. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 23:16, 16 January 2010 (EST)
- But the thing is, it's not meant as a section about getting out of the city, it's meant as a section for suggestions on where (not how) you can go next after you're there. There has been long debates on renaming this - as everyone seems to agree it's a bad name, but there is no agreement on an alternative name yet. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 23:57, 16 January 2010 (EST)
- I totally agree that Lembar needs well developed information about how to get from the harbour to where you are going. I have arrived by boat to Lembar about 10 times and it is a bit of hassle (although not as much as many more OtBP places in Indonesia). None of the information has been deleted, just put into the section where it belongs. As I explained earlier, this is a slightly odd article and there is a good case for it not being one at all - normally a small harbour would not be an article, but part of the city it serves. Lembar does not fit neatly into a city though. I think the airport analogy is a good one - treat it like arrival info for an airport and explain how to get where you are going once you have arrived. I hope that helps to clarify. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:35, 17 January 2010 (EST)
Okay, I get the idea. I will try to stay within the agreed upon format. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 12:40, 17 January 2010 (EST)
Thumbs up
[edit]Loads of great work from your hands popping up everywhere, nice! --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 19:20, 23 January 2010 (EST)
Thanks. I think I found a new hobby. But it looks as if this never ends. I hope there's still some time for traveling left :-) (WT-en) Whatsinaname 16:36, 24 January 2010 (EST)
- Yes Wikivoyage is never-ending :). After all that great work on Mykonos I think it is now definitely a guide status article. And you should have the pleasure of changing it. Just edit the relevant tag at the bottom. Cheers and thanks again for all your excellent work here. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:11, 30 January 2010 (EST)
Adding my thanks as well for the good work you've done - between you and Burmesedays the Indonesia articles are quickly morphing from one of our least-organized sections to one of the most well done. Nice work! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 15:56, 14 February 2010 (EST)
- The credits should go to Burmesedays. I am just fine tuning his work (and he is correcting mine).
Bali edits
[edit]As a matter of courtesy, I thought I should let you know that I rolled a couple of your Bali article edits. The locations of Tanjung Benoa (really part of Nusa Dua) and Benoa Harbour (on the east coast just north of Kuta) have confused plenty of other people in past! Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:25, 12 February 2010 (EST)
Thanks for letting me know. Appreciated! But the confusion is also in the system. If you would make a link to Benoa, you will end up in Nusa Dua. I don't know if anything can be done about that. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 07:11, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- That is a re-direct I did not know about. I will change it to redirect to Kuta. Tanjung Benoa should re-direct to Nusa Dua but not Benoa. I am also by the way removing Pondok Viena Beach from Amed. It is a total, diseased slum of a dump that nobody should go near! Truly a foul place. Cheers and thanks again for all your work. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:56, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- Just a quick style/format note. Sleep listings should always be in sleep. No problem having geographical sub-categories within the sleep section, if appropriate. So those Tulamben resorts need to go back to Amed#sleep. Cheers. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:03, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- I have put them back. But still I want you to consider this: these are dive centers, and not regular accommodations, aren't they? Would Tulamben, which is in the Dive section, not be a better place for that reason? There are loads of other dive schools in the Dive section as well. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 09:15, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- If you think they could be expressed as diveshops rather than hotels, then yes into the Do section. The 3 Tulamben resorts (there is also Emerald that you did not move) are hotels which get mainly divers as guests. The Amed dive shops are dive operations first and foremost, some of which are attached to hotels. It is a subtle distinction. Changing one or more of the 3 Tulamben listings to a dive operation rather than a hotel would work I think, but make sure the accommodation details go. Wikivoyage is fun eh? Getting to grips with all these subtlties :) Give me a shout anytime if anything is unclear. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:27, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- What about making a new, seperate Tulamben article? (WT-en) Whatsinaname 13:09, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- I do not think there is enough there to support a whole seperate article for Tulamben, and that the info lives quite comfortably in the Amed article.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:34, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- I think I will draw a map for Padang Bai and may well ask you to look it over before it goes live. After your good work there, the article probably now deserves a map.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:01, 13 February 2010 (EST)
- Done. Please have a look and let me know if you have any comments. Best to look at the full size version at shared. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 06:54, 13 February 2010 (EST)
- Damn, you're good! That must have been a lot of work. Although I have never been in Padangbai ( I am just preparing for my trip, which starts in two weeks time), I have a rough idea where things are. In the map there is a "Puri Rai Cafe". I think the name should be "Puri Rai Restaurant". If there is room enough I would change "Padang Bai Beach Bungalows" into "Padang Bai Beach Bungalow Resort" (or keep it the way it is). If there is room enough I would change "Mustika Sari" into "Mustika Sari Beach Hotel" (or "Mustika Sari Hotel"). The "Kinky Reggae Bar" is a beach bar. I think the position is not right and should be on the beach near WaterWorx. On the map you have drawn five temples. I don't know whether the position of the temple on the left is right. According to another map it should be even more to the left. Have a look at: . And just as a suggestion, it would be nice if the names of Blue Lagoon and Bias Tugel would have been written on the map (in stead of numbers). Keep on the good work! (WT-en) Whatsinaname 18:39, 13 February 2010 (EST)
Cheers for that. Inevitably some establishment names get shortened in the key box, but I will see what can be done there. I read that about Kinky as well but if it is the bar I think it is, then it is back a little from the beach on that gang. Just had a look at LP (not that this means too much as it is pretty awful for Bali), and they have it in that approximate position as well. However, the bars down there are tiny rooms, easily confused and I cannot be sure. I am fairly sure the temples are about right as I have a good source for checking the positions. Good point about the beaches - easily changed and will do so. I also added BlueBubble which was left off in error, and Ozone Bar which has been around forever. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:27, 13 February 2010 (EST)
- Could it be Babylon Reggae Bar? (WT-en) Whatsinaname 20:01, 16 February 2010 (EST)
- It might be. No way to know for sure without actually going there I think. It is also not an especially big deal as nowhere is more than a 2 minute walk on that part of the beach, so no user will be inconvenienced.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 20:15, 16 February 2010 (EST)
If you are visiting Bali soon, please do ask if you need any pointers at all. Happy to help out. Also, you might or might not be aware that all the Bali articles will print well if you select "printable version" from the left bar toolbox. As we have been so anal about the formatting of the Bali articles, they print really well. There is a lot of unique stuff about Bali here that you will not find in any existing commercial guides. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:27, 13 February 2010 (EST)
- I am not sure that factoid about Mushroom Bay is correct. It has been repeated many times after LP came up with it. Several locals have told me though that it is called Mushroom Bay due to the shape of the bay. I suggest it is best omitted :).--(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:40, 14 February 2010 (EST)
- The name intrigued me, so I wanted to know why it is called Mushroom Bay, and I came up with this explanation (yes, from LP). Well, if the name is ambigious, we'll leave it out. Alternative is including both explanations, because it still triggers me. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 10:49, 14 February 2010 (EST)
- I have removed the boat listing you added to Nusa Lembongan. That is not a scheduled service no matter what their website says. It runs only when they have enough bookings (usually related to their accommodation), or it is available for private charter. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:10, 14 February 2010 (EST)
No initial capital for directions
[edit]Good spot! I had no idea about this and will change right away. It is especially important for Nusa Lembongan as the aticle is up for star nomination. Nobody else had noticed either! Cheers --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:34, 12 February 2010 (EST)
Listing templates
[edit]Please do not be too concerned about constructing full sentences inside a listings template. These are intended to contain punchy phrases not sentences. In particular, please see the scoop on opening hour formats here and here. No need to say "Open from....", and the approved format is 9AM-9PM, not 9AM to 9PM. I will change back those that you altered at Nusa Lembongan. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 21:17, 14 February 2010 (EST)
Back?
[edit]I am guessing you are? Hope you had a great time :). --(WT-en) Burmesedays 09:32, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- Yes, I am back home from a wonderful trip. Just putting some of my best pictures in the articles. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 09:38, 9 April 2010 (EDT)
- Good to hear. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:15, 11 April 2010 (EDT)
Image names
[edit]Just a heads up. Please do not used any diacritics, accents or sguigglies of any nature in file names at Wikivoyage shared. It messes up and the image becomes unusable in thumbnail format. This one for example is now broken and can only be used in its original size: http://shared.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Image:Brazil_Cataratas_do_Igua%C3%A7u_1.JPG. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:15, 11 April 2010 (EDT)
- I already found that out by experience: Wikivoyage just does not accept filenames with accents. Yesterday I have already uploaded again that same picture with a better filename . As far as I can see there are no wrong links in the articles. (WT-en) Whatsinaname 09:27, 11 April 2010 (EDT)

You uploaded Image:Delos -Theatre.jpg to English Wikivoyage rather than shared:, which I think may have been done in error. In general all images uploaded to English Wikivoyage are quickly deleted as it is assumed that anyone who doesn't read the warning message on Special:Upload probably doesn't understand Wikivoyage's copyleft either, but since you've been contributing here for a while I'm wondering if it was just an accident. In any case, could you re-upload the image on shared: so that it can be used by other Wikivoyage versions? Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 16:21, 27 July 2011 (EDT)
- Done! --(WT-en) Whatsinaname 16:37, 27 July 2011 (EDT)
