Add topicHello, Andrez1! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. And, by the way, YES it's an universal problem. MY neighbourhood (Brasília, Brazil) and some friends' (Neukölln in Berlin, Gràcia in Barcelona, Chiado in Lisbon etc. etc. etc.) have not been updated for YEARS. Everybody who uses the satellite view of Google Maps is or should be aware of this, you know. Oh well, whatever. Nevermind. Happy editings Ibaman (talk) 20:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Ibaman.
- It is something different to not update because things take time. Than not to be able to update because nesesary info or oportunity are not given. I belive the latter here is the matter. --Andrez1 (talk) 20:31, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Bottom line is :DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE MAPS SATELLITE VIEW. Not a good source, not in Brazil, not in Germany, not in Morocco, not in Western Sahara. That is what was meant. Ibaman (talk) 20:35, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Here the message have to be: Do trust google maps satellite view. Do not trust the map-layer. Not in morocco. --Andrez1 (talk) 21:10, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
- Ploease please please read the External links#What not to link to policy and DON'T EVER AGAIN EVEN THINK of mentioning (let alone, God forbid, insert a link) to Google Maps. PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN THE DESERT IN AUSTRALIA AND TEXAS BECAUSE OF IT. If you disagree, please do so at Wikivoyage_talk:External links. Thank you Ibaman (talk) 17:44, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- I have read your link to External links#What not to link to and can not see your point. I do _not_ _link_ to any map sevice. Like Google Maps. I do, in plain text, point to what i see as valuable information needed to understand the city of Smara (and its closeness to the berm).
- If only mentioning Google Maps leads to reactiones like what you are showing; then this information clearly can not be given in Wikivoyage.
- So i delete that part. All warning and little info; is that how it works best? --Andrez1 (talk) 21:30, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- Pay attention to my last edits; that's how you insert listings with address, geo parameters, contact info and such. They will appear on the dynamic map. You *may* use Google Maps to acquire the info; posting links to it, or "reccommending taking a peek at it", is unaceptable. Sorry if I sounded harsh. Thanks for the attention. Happy editings Ibaman (talk) 22:02, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- What gets my attention in your text is not your technical mastering. --Andrez1 (talk) 22:18, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Photo galleries and alignment
[edit]Hi, Andrez1.
We don't use photo galleries on this site, with few exceptions. Please see Wikivoyage:Image policy#Montages and galleries. I prefer not to delete the gallery you just added to the Smara article, so I will try to give you a little time (maybe 2 days or so) to choose which photo to add as a regular-sized thumbnail (part of the problem with galleries being the tiny resulting size of the images), but I can't do anything to prevent someone else from deleting the gallery at any time. Also, when you do pick one to use as a thumbnail, please make sure it's below and not to the left of the map, per this site's image alignment guidelines.
Thanks a lot!
