Hi, Colin! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

I've heard of it. I've been there! -(WT-en) phma 07:30, 7 Mar 2004 (EST)

Most useful thing to do

[edit]

There's a page called ways to help Wikivoyage that gives some suggestions for ways to contribute. --(WT-en) Evan 11:04, 7 Mar 2004 (EST)

WikiMail

[edit]

Hi, Colin. Thank you for the two statistics links you gave me at Talk:United States of America. I assumed more people died in traffic in higher-income nations -- in the extreme case, if no one can afford a car, there are zero traffic accidents. I am surprised to see exactly the opposite happen in Africa and the Americas. I'm glad I learned something new today. -- (WT-en) DavidCary 20:24, 2 Apr 2004 (EST)

Welcome

[edit]

Hi Colin - thanks for the warm welcome, I've just come from Wikipedia, so please call me on anything I'm doing that's out of sorts around here - so refreshing to find a place without all of the politicing and wierdness of WP! Have read some of the guides, look forward to working with you, (WT-en) Mark Richards 13:31, 5 May 2004 (EDT)

Oops - thanks for pointing that one out - will go back and fix this! (WT-en) Mark Richards 20:15, 6 May 2004 (EDT)

referenda

[edit]

Thanks for the idea for a discussion period. I think it's a good idea and I will certainly include it in my "proposal". Cheers! (WT-en) Akubra 15:32, 11 May 2004 (EDT)

Revert

[edit]

I reverted an anonymous change to your user page. --(WT-en) Evan 17:34, 26 May 2004 (EDT)

Thanks! It improves my disposition when un-defacing my pages is a team effort. -- (WT-en) Colin 18:15, 26 May 2004 (EDT)

Sort Ascending

[edit]

Everyone was putting new delenda at the bottom until yesterday when Huttite put one at the top. -(WT-en) phma 14:46, 13 Jun 2004 (EDT)

I just changed the instructions to say to put them at the bottom. I dunno why anyone would want new stuff at the top. --(WT-en) Evan 14:51, 13 Jun 2004 (EDT)
To see it first. My thinking was newest at the top of the list, where you read it first, through to oldest at the bottom, where it falls off the page when it is deleted. I couldn't work out which end to put it on, so chose the top rather than the bottom .... but then I am from down-under. -- (WT-en) Huttite 07:58, 1 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Congratulations

[edit]

Belated congrats on the birth of your third! --(WT-en) Evan 13:23, 2 Jul 2004 (EDT)

Thanks!

[edit]

Thank you for your warm welcome! (I've been adding things to both the Fremont and the San Jose sites. I'm also trying to advertise this site in general.) I hope that you like the Copper Chimney -- it's a little spicy. I chose it as an Indian restaurant because of the ambiance, not the food.

Glasgow & DB Problems

[edit]

Hi Colin.

Thanks for the ping on this. Actually I'd already updated Glasgow to act on your suggestions, and I've now updated Talk:Glasgow with a description of what done. With our current db problems, I'm not sure whether these changes are going to stick, so I've stashed local copies.

Thanks for helping to rollback those external links... guess not everyone reads the Project:Goals and non-goals page ;-).

Snchduer

[edit]

Hi Colin!

hm, i thought the two (wikipedia and wikivoyage) would be more closely connected... in this case, i will probably have to remove the images, or ask for a permission from whoever put the images there...

(snchduer)

Texas

[edit]

You removed a link to southwest airlines because it is not a wikivoyage article, and rightly so, as it is not. However, interwiki linking is enabled here, and adding wikipedia: before the title will correctly send it to wikipedia's page. Please use this whenever possible. Thanks, anon.

As a matter of policy regarding style, WikiTravel is not an encyclopedia and does not link to other terms and definitions in an encylopedic fashion. I'm aware that thinks are done differently in other wiki projects. -- (WT-en) Colin 18:58, 23 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Thanks! Paris in the spring

[edit]

Thanks for catching that spelling error. Arrondissement has a double s. I guess the page with just one s was created while Evan and I were discussing it way back when.

Thanks for the kudos too! I think the best months to target for a DOM for Paris would be April or May. There's still quite a lot to do; I'd like to have a full set of maps, and quite a few more sleep listings first. -- (WT-en) Mark 01:06, 27 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Thanks

You keep getting the satisfaction of reverting the chinese spammer before I can. ;) -- (WT-en) Mark 22:03, 28 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Administrative nomination

[edit]

I've just nominated you for admin status on Wikivoyage. It'd be great if you could let us know if you're interested in the responsibility and if you'd like to take it on. You can check out the current discussion on Project:Administrator nominations. --(WT-en) Evan 17:06, 9 Nov 2004 (EST)

Admin status

[edit]

So, your admin status has been updated. It happens to coincide with a period in which I've managed to remove all the special admin buttons from the interface... hopefully they'll be back in action over the weekend. Then, you can delete and protect things as needed (per vote, of course). Welcome aboard and thanks for everything, --(WT-en) Evan 23:16, 18 Nov 2004 (EST)

Thanks -- I was wondering about that since Mark had mentioned "all those buttons you mustn't press" and I was planning on learning the positions of the buttons I must not press right away (so I can keep my mouse away from it). -- (WT-en) Colin 23:35, 18 Nov 2004 (EST)
They are a lot easier to avoid in the monobook skin, when they exist that is. I've actually only ever protected a page once and that was by accident (thankfully Evan caught it). Thankfully it's much harder to delete something by accident, as the software requires a confirmation. -- (WT-en) Mark 03:15, 19 Nov 2004 (EST)

Thanks for the encouragement to the Uraguay user

[edit]

Hey, just wanted to say that the way you handled the Uraguay issue from the front page seemed like really great diplomacy. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Mark 16:42, 21 Nov 2004 (EST)

More thanks

[edit]

Just wanted to give you another kudos for dealing with new contributors-- you have a very nice wiki-side manner! Keep it up and thanks (WT-en) Majnoona 18:48, 6 Dec 2004 (EST)

Licensing

[edit]

There are serious plans afoot to make the CC-by-sa and GNU FDL compatible. So this is not a long term concern. Since the format and content goals of Wikivoyage and Wikipedia are so different, the ability to copy to and from is not that important anyway. What is important is making sure Wikimedia projects and Wikivoyage all get the resources they need to flourish. --(WT-en) Maveric149 20:38, 13 Dec 2004 (EST)

Conflicts

[edit]

It looks OK. I get the impression that Mediawiki is not so good with conflicts when people are doing section level edits. (WT-en) Hypatia 18:52, 16 Dec 2004 (EST)

Apologies for adding a link to an external guide; I didn't realize there was a special policy on the subject. Thanks for all your good work! (WT-en) Lectiodifficilior

Is there somewhere we should put all those Other Guides that you keep reverting? My thoughts are that some of them may be useful resources for contributors to use for research. Perhaps the really good(?) ones could be listed on a ... um ... Travel guides page! Well if they were all listed in one place we could point out to the contributor and say - "Your already listed here, in the right place."
This idea is growing on me as I type, I will mention in the Travellers' pub too! - (WT-en) Huttite 15:38, 3 Jan 2005 (EST)

Thanks for the kind words. Great site, i hope i can contribute a lot.

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for writing to me about an "other guide" revert. I didn't see your comments until just now. Is it possible for you to consider the site I posted again ()? It isn't really a guide; it's a web directory, designed to capture every useful page on Petra. My main interest is actually historical and archaeological, not tourist related. Indeed, only one section is on tourism per se, and the largest section is of travelogues.

Anyway, I have that site, one on Alanya, Turkey, one on Machu Picchu and I'm working on one about Sintra in Portugal. They all follow the same principle.

Anyway, I don't want to press, and I don't want to seem to worry just about external links. (I think, perhaps, I owe some non-link editorial work.) Lastly, is it possible that WikiTravel's objections might be better expressed as against other "general" resources, which my pages certainly are, not just guides.

Rollback a user script

[edit]

Hey,

Actually it's really simple and all flows from

 use LWP::UserAgent

basically all that's necessary is to load the user's contributions page at a given interval and then load any "rollback" links found. Easy-peasy. I'll post code after I've cleaned it up.

It should go without saying that this sort of thing is for emergencies only, as I think it probably violates the script policy in a couple of different ways. -- (WT-en) Mark 16:06, 4 Feb 2005 (EST)

Hi, I'm the other Colin Jensen.

[edit]

When you google "colin jensen" you get listings for both yourself and me. So hi, I'm the other Colin Jensen. I'm also from the Bay Area (Marin, Novato), and am http://www.colinandbethany.com. Anyway, just saying Hi. We should trade business cards or something...

It's surprising to me how many colin jensens there are. Everytime I signup for an account on an obscure web site, colinjensen is already taken. -- (WT-en) Colin 18:00, 4 Mar 2005 (EST)

However, it's not a goal to collect all links about any destination. External links should support and complement the content of articles; they're not a goal in and of themselves.
  9. travel guide supplement. The WikiWiki technique we use for Wikivoyage makes it possible for us to include information that's not in other travel guides. This doesn't mean that we only include information not found in other guides. Wikivoyage aims to be a complete travel guide -- not just an additional resource on the side of traditional guide.

Agreed. AFAICT Colin's been doing a good job enforcing the extlinks policy. --(WT-en) Evan 00:15, 19 Mar 2005 (EST)

Sorry for missing the rules on templates; I had seen the mediocre (and I now know disallowed) previous Ontario template and wanted to improve it. Thanks for still using polite language when correcting me! (WT-en) Padraic 10:06, 13 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Anonymous User Messages

[edit]

I have noticed that you have a page for (WT-en) Anonymous User Messages. I wonder if it would be more useful to write a little policy about this and explain your practice of deleting messages after a while. I think your deletion activity is probably a good idea but I think it needs to be documented too, so we can all partake and think about this activity. -- (WT-en) Huttite 23:59, 15 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Silicon Valley

[edit]

CJensen: You insist on a definition of Silicon Valley that equates it to Santa Clara County, and you dismiss cities like Menlo Park and Fremont as SV-wannabe's. Last week, the San Jose Mercury News published its annual Silicon Valley 150, the top companies in Silicon Valley. See:

http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/siliconvalley/business/special_packages/silicon_valley_150/11348863.htm

"The Silicon Valley 150 ranks public companies headquartered in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, southern San Mateo and southern Alameda counties on the basis of worldwide revenues ("Sales") for the most recent available four quarters. Most results are for the four quarters ended on or near Dec. 31, 2004, except where noted."

Included in the list are companies headquartered in Foster City in San Mateo County, Santa Cruz, Fremont in Alameda County, etc. In the print edition, I found an interesting explanation of a company that is no longer in the SV150 because it moved its headquarters from Fremont (in SV) to Pleasanton (not in SV). -StavP

Well, Colin. If you want to rely on a twenty year old unpublished paper, that is your prerogative. However, you should be consistent. In the Tajnai paper, she includes Redwood City, Menlo Park and San Carlos within the definition of Silicon Valley, you chose to exclude these cities. So I would suggest you are imposing the arbitrary CJensen definiton of Silicon Valley on WikiTravel readers.

I would offer the view that many more people accept the San Jose Mercury News as authority on this subject than either Carolyn Tajnai or you. - StavP

Tokyo/Ebisu

[edit]

In my view Yebisu Garden Place is not a single attraction, it's an entire area. So the area's home page in the intro paragraph gets the inline link and the individual attractions within the area are listings. Does this make any sense? (WT-en) Jpatokal 22:32, 6 Jun 2005 (EDT)

vandal is starting to bore me

[edit]

Hey, I'm taking off, would appreciate if you can track the vandal for a bit. -- (WT-en) Mark 20:29, 7 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Ok. I'm surprised he does this routinely. Doesn't he know that it takes us like five seconds to fix a problem that takes him a minute to make? That's a poor effort to annoyance ratio. -- (WT-en) Colin 20:34, 7 Jul 2005 (EDT)
I can't decide. Does he not know, after vandalizing Wikipedia all year, that revert is a single-click operation for an admin? -- (WT-en) Colin 20:52, 7 Jul 2005 (EDT)
I can't think of any reason why this guy keeps at it, but I'm impressed that you're still here reverting. I've been checking in occasionally to see if you were developing carpal-tunnel yet and needed a reprieve, so kudos to you for holding out so long. I'm at home doing some programming work, so if you need to take off for a bit I'll try and keep an eye on things. -- (WT-en) Wrh2 20:57, 7 Jul 2005 (EDT)
I already took a break. But it'll be dinner soon for me. It doesn't really matter if stuff goes fifteen minutes without reversion - in fact it saves time cause you can revert a whole bunch of stuff at once. -- (WT-en) Colin 21:00, 7 Jul 2005 (EDT)
I had to go to sleep for a while, but it's morning so I'm back. Thanks for keeping an eye on stuff. -- (WT-en) Mark 03:02, 8 Jul 2005 (EDT)
Great job, everyone. Thanks again, again, again for your attention, professionalism, and patience. --(WT-en) Evan 07:36, 8 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Nice job on getting all of the towns around Yosemite started. I may be starting up working again shortly, so time may get short, but I'd be glad to do what I can. -- (WT-en) Ryan 21:49, 1 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Clarification needed

[edit]

Hi Colin,

Stephen here, owner of the site Luxury New Zealand.

You've removed my link from External links, the reason for which I now understand. Thanks for the explanation... :-)

But I don't understand why you've removed it from the context of the content I added in the "Sleep" section. LNZ is not a web directory, certainly no more so than yha.org.nz which is linked in the paragraph that follows. :?

Luxury New Zealand is a full content site pitched to the luxury traveller. As such it contains not only lists of lodges that are members of different marketing organisations but also individual pages for those lodges. These individual pages contain enquiry forms or online booking forms. There's more as well, and it's being added to at the rate of about a page a week.

Trust this helps to explain why I've created the links.

Regards, Stephen

Hi Colin,

I've responded to your response in my Talk section. Don't know if that's the right way to do it (posting here to tell you about a message there) but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks, Stephen

Hi,
There's another response for you to consider...
Thanks,
Stephen

Hotels

[edit]

Hi Colin. You seem to be the master of hotel additions for new articles, and I was just curious if they are coming from the script mentioned on your user page, or if you're just looking them up like the rest of us poor schmoes? If you've got a giant list somewhere that needs to be fed into the appropriate articles then I (and probably others) would be glad to help out. As a side note, nice job with the latest batch of Bay Area cities -- at the rate you're going it might be the first complete region around here before long. -- (WT-en) Ryan 02:48, 21 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Yes, I have a big-ole honkin list generated from the script with 8255 US entries in it. In my master plan for world domination, I'd like to write a script which inserts the entries into the city articles automatically (and I'll need to scrape Wikivoyage a bit to figure out the article names). And I'd like to keep a full DB with which motels have been updated onto Wikivoyage. This way, not only could I auto-insert the hotels into Wikivoyage, but I could also update or even remove the entries automatically (cause some individual hotel properties jump ship and switch chains pretty often). Also, I haven't completed the job yet -- I think I need to have more chains in the DB. But if I write the auto-update tool, then each time I add a chain then it can re-update the sleep entries.
If you let me know which states you are interested in, I could upload the current set into my sandbox for those states. -- (WT-en) Colin 03:24, 21 Aug 2005 (EDT)
If you're planning on writing an automated script to load the hotel info into articles then there's no need for the mad hordes of Wikivoyage editors to do anything, although should you decide that it's easier to just publish the lists of hotel info and have people manually update the appropriate Wikivoyage articles then I'll gladly help out. For now though it sounds like it's best to simply keep you caffeinated and working on your evil plans for Wikivoyage hotel supremacy without further interruption. -- (WT-en) Ryan 03:34, 21 Aug 2005 (EDT)
I think that verbatim copying of entries from my master list won't hurt any of my future plans. So go ahead and ask if you want a state I haven't uploaded yet. -- (WT-en) Colin 03:41, 21 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Tower Articles

[edit]

If you look back through my recent changes, you'll find that I've fixed the dead-ends on a lot of those tower articles... they make for pretty wimpy stuff, but I can't decide if they should be deleted or not. -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 21:07, 25 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Since they are copyright violations taken from Wikipedia, the content must go (see Cooperating with Wikipedia). I'd be very surprised if they survive deletion -- check out the guidelines at Project:What is an article? where it basically says you either have to be able to sleep there or it must be a large and complex destination or it must be far removed from other places to get an article. If it wasn't copyvio, we could at least most some of the content into the correct region or city article as an attraction. The Structures article is a possible survivor of deletion, but the content would need to be re-written from scratch (see United States National Parks for an example of a similar list -- note that only some parks have articles, others are within regions or city articles). -- (WT-en) Colin 21:14, 25 Aug 2005 (EDT)
Well the ones that I played with were less detailed than several of the tower articles. Most of the time they, I think, listed a city nearby - I might have misunderstood them - and so I templated them to a small city. I VFD'd at least one tower, I know for sure, because it was totally against Project:What is an article?. I dunno... if you want to take a look at what I did see Herzberg, Hellissandur, or Donington-On-Bain as examples. -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 21:30, 25 Aug 2005 (EDT)
Those entries look like great content to me -- that's exactly how the towers should be added. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Colin 22:15, 25 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Atlanta Hotels

[edit]

I know the links were out of the formatting protocals, but my arguement was more toward the fact that they are almost all subdomains of Felcor.com - part of the Felcor Lodging Trust. Seems to me that the links should be to the hotel's webpages, not a third-party. Don't you figure Felcor is making money off of the clicktroughs?

Oh wait... Felcor Lodging Trust owns those hotels. Hmmm... what do you think? While you were reverting the changes, I added a ton of information in an odd format. So I don't end up losing it, I'm putting it on my talk page temporarily and you can take a look at it there.

Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 17:46, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Nevermind my talk page - I accidently copied something else to the clipboard in the mean time. :( -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 17:48, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Not exactly the same topic, but related - and since we'd discussed in the past I thought I'd discuss it with you again.
On the Houston page I noticed the following note under the Mid-Range hotels:
NOTE: Only use the official website link, ie. for any Holiday Inn Hotel (franchised or not) the site should be on Holiday Inn's web servers. We are not trying to get one hotel company or franchise rich, please use more than Felcor hotel trust hotels.
It seems to have been a part of this article for some time now... what do you think of it? -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 11:15, 10 Nov 2005 (EST)
I consider the complaint invalid -- unfortunately, it was from an anon ip, so we can't discuss it. But I don't see how the website of a property's owner can be considered less than official. The complaint also seems to also be against the concentration on Felcor hotels as opposed to other hotels. If they didn't like it, rather than complain against someone who is doing something useful, I'd rather see them counter it with their own effort -- they should add other hotels themselves. No one really gets to dictate what a contributor must work on -- our guidelines only allow for limits to what a contributor chooses to work on. -- (WT-en) Colin 13:33, 10 Nov 2005 (EST)
Sounds good to me. I noticed that you had removed it, and I was of the same mind you are - they were railing against the fact that the majority (if not all at the time) of the hotels were Felcor hotels. A MicroTel spammer has been poking around lately, so maybe that is in response. And speaking the MicroTel inserts, they tend to be for cities near the article's city - sometimes suburbs, but still seems a little spammy... -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 20:23, 13 Nov 2005 (EST)
[edit]

Why did you remove the link to [www.visit-salzburg.net/] from the Salzburg article? I work on this website for free, there is (at least by now) no advertisements on it, no commercial interest and the page is intended to provide independent informaiton for international visitors - especially as it will grow in the next weeks, it will be a valuable source for independent travellers. Please answer here. Thanks.

We have nothing against visitors directories -- including those which are commercial. But we don't link to them. See Project:External links for the policy and rationale, and try Project:External links if you'd like to discuss it further. Thanks. -- (WT-en) Colin 18:12, 9 Oct 2005 (EDT)
Right, I see. Fair point, will move this to the discussion page. Thanks! B.

Actually, I didn't finish. I was wondering... when there is only one or two routes through a particular smaller town, maybe it is valuable to know the connections? Hmmm. -- (WT-en) Colin 15:41, 5 Nov 2005 (EST)
I agree that it's not quite clear where to draw the line (that's why I brought it up at the Project:Travellers' pub). For example, if there is only one bus/train/etc a day to or from a place, or if service starts or ends at an odd hour, it would be good to know. But I still feel that a descriptive sentence is more useful and far more readable than the schedule lines our anonymous author is adding. I for one don't know what the abbreviations he's using mean... but maybe this should be brought up on the Template page? (WT-en) Majnoona 18:58, 5 Nov 2005 (EST)
I can't read those silly schedules for anything in the world, or I probably would have started making sentences out of them instead of just shuffling them to the talk page. And I was only talking them so as to not feel too bad about getting rid of what must be a fair amount of work. -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 00:02, 6 Nov 2005 (EST)

Thanks

For sorting out the mess I made on the template (WT-en) Hkpatv 21:34, 9 Nov 2005 (EST)

And re-instating the wikipedia link on Lantau - I hadn't noticed the wikipedia link on the sidebar so assumed the template did nothing.(WT-en) Hkpatv 04:22, 22 Nov 2005 (EST)
[edit]

I think the ~62 articles added by User:(WT-en) Kitsap are copied from http://visitkitsap.com/. Well the first 3 I looked at were word for word afre the first line. While removing the extlinks is probably a good idea, leaving them in means that the copyright violation page can be identified. -- (WT-en) Huttite 00:10, 19 Nov 2005 (EST)

Wanna play art critic? :-)

[edit]

Hey Colin, thanks for putting the IsIn links on my various New Mexico pages -- saves me a lot of editing. While you're at it, if you wouldn't mind, could you pass through my (WT-en) Santa Fe photo page and critique the other photos beyond the St. Francis Cathedral one? I'd like to add one or two more to the Santa Fe (New Mexico) page, which has been nominated (by Ryan) as a DotM candidate and therefore needs some more photos, but would value the opinions of you and a few other WT old hands as to which ones to include. -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 18:45, 10 Dec 2005 (EST)

I'm no art critic -- to me they all look good :-) -- (WT-en) Colin 18:55, 10 Dec 2005 (EST)

YggdrasilBot

[edit]

I've got a proposal for a bot to do the cleanup work on breadcrumb navigation here: Project:Script nominations#YggdrasilBot. Your comment welcome, please. --(WT-en) Evan 00:01, 11 Dec 2005 (EST)

Thanks

[edit]

For all the deletions! Wish I'd thought of that. --(WT-en) Evan 01:21, 12 Dec 2005 (EST)

ARGHHHHHH!!

[edit]

Okay, someone should put a search box for the Help pages. Only after posting nearly 80 external links and information under the "Buy" heading did I discover everything was reversed. Before I started, I went from page to page looking for an external links policy. Since I couldn't find it, I just used one of the other pages as an example of what is acceptable. Anyway, I understand removing my external links, but you've also reversed all the information I put under the Buy headings for most of the cities I posted external links. That information was correct and according to policy guidelines. I'm sure visitors would have benefited from the things I wrote for Richmond CA, Pleasanton CA, and others. Bigmallrat

I'm terribly sorry about that. The software we use does have a "you have a new message" notification feature, but sadly it is disabled because it takes too much computing power so there was no way for me to notify you about the problem. I think I actually kept the Buy information in most cases including Richmond and Pleasanton. If I over-removed anything, just let me know and I'll take the time to fix it. Thanks for your contributions! -- (WT-en) Colin 23:53, 17 Dec 2005 (EST)

Discussion about Cuba

[edit]

Hello. I've seen we had some disput about Cuba. As it was just 1 year before, it was quite difficult to get some fuel in Kuba, when moving around yourself, that's why I thought I could add this. But if this is not welcomed here, well, I can live with that. Just returned yesterday from Cuba, and the country is really changing quite quickly. Not as fast as China for example, but still with a speed faster than usually in the caribean, that's why I added such informations about stuff that changed in like last 1-2years there..

I certainly don't search any "fight" about any articel with you, but like to work to further improve this really good project.

Well, for sure if fuel is hard to find, a note is helpful. I think you should add your note back if a) you think Cuba has earned itself a reputation for having fuel shortages or b) you think countries like Cuba in general have fuel shortages. I'll trust your judgement on this if you think the traveller will be assuming shortages exist. -- (WT-en) Colin 00:19, 24 Dec 2005 (EST)
Thanks for your fast answer, guess I will leave it right as it's now, since there is no need to warn the people right now, and the situation seems more stable as it was in the present. In case I notice any shortage in the future, I will add a note there.

Thanks for fixing the broken IsIn links after my page moves. Are you running an automated process or can you just type very fast? The speed at which you made the changes was amazing. -- (WT-en) Huttite 20:17, 27 Dec 2005 (EST)

I made the changes manually, but I don't type fast. I just went to the region page and opened up the counties in tabs by middle clicking them. Then selected each tab in turn, paged down and clicked 'edit'. I modified one isIn manually, then selected and copied it. Then for each county tab I selected the old tab and pasted over it. For the summary, I only needed to type the first letter and the browser (Safari) auto-filled the rest of the summary. Then it's just click "minor" and "submit".
I think the real trick there is the load articles in tabs, click edit in parallel, and submit in parallel so I never wait for the server. I use the same method when adding isIns in the first place. -- (WT-en) Colin 21:01, 27 Dec 2005 (EST)
Well, I've learned something new! However, as I use Explorer, window/tab switching is a bit of a pain and perhaps not as fast as other browsers. Though I am already using the concept for those favourite pages it never occured to me to open and edit all the pages at once! -- (WT-en) Huttite 04:47, 28 Dec 2005 (EST)
Well, if you ever need to do some parallel kind of work, I'd strongly suggest using Firefox with its tabs for it. -- (WT-en) Colin 12:52, 28 Dec 2005 (EST)
