User talk:Hawaiian Eskimo
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Hawaiian Eskimo! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.
Thanks for your contributions! One important note - the site is currently in beta, and many images are still being migrated so there are a lot of red links (see Wikivoyage:Cleanup#Image cleanup). These should slowly be reduced as images are moved to Commons, but in the interim if you see a red link please ignore it and assume that it's an image that is yet to be migrated. If you have any questions you can ask them on this talk page or in the Pub. -- Ryan • (talk) • 21:57, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
Sweep from Wikivoyage:Vandalism in progress
[edit]- Special:Contributions/170.232.128.10 - repeat vandalism, all edits by user --Hawaiian Eskimo (talk) 22:44, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Warned the user and added it to my stalkbot. Snowolf How can I help? 22:52, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Quick question, is it ok for "normal" users to warn people in cases like this? I would have done it before adding but wasn't sure if it was proper. Hawaiian Eskimo (talk) 23:09, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't see why not... I mean, I'm hesitant to block people before they are given a chance to mend their ways. Rarely they do, most times they keep on going, but sometimes they just stop so I think it's worth doing. But I don't see a difference between you doing it or me doing it :) Snowolf How can I help? 23:12, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Great. I poke around a bit and naturally see a fair amount of that type of stuff. Is there a warning template (I couldn't fine one), or is it just something that has to be written? Hawaiian Eskimo (talk) 23:18, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Any kind of text that fills the purpose is good to me, I personally use User:Snowolf/Warnings/General in combination with the User:Snowolf/JS toolbox, but I am not particularly happy with the warning, it's temporary I'd say, could use more specifically tailored ones and the ability to directly point to the page where the problematic edit took place, which would be nice. I plan on working on that soon but with all the stuff going on I wanted a basic version going for now :) Lemme know if you have ideas or feedback :) Snowolf How can I help? 23:22, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

- Sweeped from Wikivoyage:Vandalism in progress as it contained relevant information and and ongoing conversation Snowolf How can I help? 23:46, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's incredibly helpful. I'm still pretty unfamiliar with the site software so I didn't know little personal modifications like that were possible :) On a related note, what should I do about newly created pages that are clearly just spam (i.e. the contents are just "lol i'm awesome")? Just tag it with the speedy delete template and let an admin take care of it? Hawaiian Eskimo (talk) 23:56, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

- That's fine to do it that way. However, new pages stick out like a sore thumb, so it is unusual for new pages that are purely spam to escape notice by admins for very long, so feel free to focus on article mods if you like.. --Inas (talk) 00:17, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- v 0.2 is out and deployed, the changelog is on User:Snowolf/JS toolbox#Changelog, lemme know if you find any issues of have any suggestions :) Snowolf How can I help? 18:58, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Playing with the templates a bit, I'm happy with the edits. I did notice a typo ("summar") in the Blanking 1 template, and Blanking 2 is missing a period after the custom article name. Also, "talk page" on the Welcome template needs to be "talk pages". Other than the couple typos, I don't really have any big suggestions for the time being :) Hawaiian Eskimo (talk) 19:46, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- I've fixed the typos now, noticed them too. Will fix the talk pages comment tho do feel free to directly fix them :) They're only semiprotected :) Snowolf How can I help? 22:00, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
