Phrasebook

[edit]

I notice you are working on User:Jorges/Interslavic phrasebook. It looks to me like this is pointless.

WV once had an Esperanto phrasebook but that was deleted; see Wikivoyage:Votes_for_deletion/June_2018#Esperanto_phrasebook. I argued for keeping that, but would not be likely to do so for Interslavic; w:Interslavic says it has fewer than 10,000 speakers so I cannot see it being very useful for travellers. For more general discussion see Talk:Phrasebooks#Constructed_language_phrasebooks and Talk:Phrasebooks#Is_there_any_threshold_of_usefulness?. Pashley (talk) 02:35, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for letting me know! Interslavic in fact does not have many speakers – but different to Esperanto it can be understood by virtually all Slavic speakers without prior learning. Combined with the fact that it is much easier to learn than natural Slavic languages (due to more regularity), it is a perfect tool for travellers: One only needs to learn Interslavic, and can make oneself understood in Russia, Poland, Czechia and the Balkans. See this news clip about Interslavic or read here the comments of Slavic speakers below this interview being surprised how much they understand. Jorges (talk) 10:35, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
