You might find the old discussion at Talk:Europe/Hierarchy#British_Isles or even earlier at Talk:Europe/Hierarchy/Archive#The_British_Isles of interest. There's also a bunch on Talk:Britain_and_Ireland.

My own opinion is that British Isles, Irish Sea, Persian Gulf, etc. should be used & objections from the Irish, Welsh & Arabs respectively ignored. Having the page at Britain and Ireland is OK too, though I did not think it was necessary. Pashley (talk) 02:28, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
