Gateshead is a town in Tyne and Wear in the northeast of England, situated south of Newcastle upon Tyne on the banks of the river Tyne.

Newcastle Airport is Gateshead's nearest airport, and is located around 9 miles (14 km) away by road. Teesside Airport and Carlisle Lake District Airport are located a distance of around 35 and 50 miles (56 and 80 km) respectively.
By coach
The nearest coach station is Newcastle Coach Station, which is located on St. James Boulevard. Services operated by Megabus depart from John Dobson Street (adjacent to Newcastle City Library).
By road
Gateshead is located near to the A1.
By rail
The Tyne and Wear Metro links Gateshead with Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Newcastle Airport, as well as South Tyneside and Sunderland. Trains run every 6–8 minutes (with additional trains at peak times) between around 05:00 and midnight. The network is divided in to three zones, with ticket prices ranging between £2.00 and £3.60 for a single journey, and £3.20 and £5.30 for a day ticket.
The nearest National Rail station is located at Newcastle, and is served by CrossCountry, London North Eastern Railway, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.

By bus
Gateshead is well served by bus services, with a number of routes serving Gateshead Interchange. Most bus routes in the area are operated by Go North East.
Quaylink is operated by Go North East and links Gateshead with Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside and the Quayside, with buses running every 15 minutes (30 minutes during the evening and on Sunday).

The building houses two large concert halls, bars, a restaurant and reference library. The building hosts a wide variety of musical talent, especially classical and folk.

There are many food outlets at the Metro Centre.
Many restaurants can be reached on the Newcastle Quayside from Gateshead by the Millennium Bridge.
Drink
If you prefer something traditional, try The Coach House or Station Hotel in Gateshead. Alternatively, the Bridge Hotel, Bacchus, The Bodega or Crown Posada all in Newcastle city centre just over the river.
There are many food outlets at the Metro Centre.
