Nurmijärvi is a municipality in Uusimaa. The administrative center is the urban area of Nurmijärvi, but the largest urban area is the southern town of 1 Klaukkala. There is also Rajamäki, which is the municipality's third largest and the northernmost human settlement near the border of Hyvinkää.

Nurmijärvi is a suburban municipality, around 30 km north of Helsinki, made up of urban areas and villages. Nurmijärvi is a rural municipality with a long history, and formerly included the town of Hyvinkää. The population of the municipality is over 44,000 inhabitants (2021), and in recent decades, Nurmijärvi has been one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Greater Helsinki and also in whole Finland in terms of population. Nurmijärvi has become popular with families moving out from Helsinki to single-family homes in the urban areas and countryside.

From Helsinki and Vantaa, you can get to Nurmijärvi along Highway 3 (E12) in the direction of Hämeenlinna and Tampere. From Hyvinkää, you can get to Nurmijärvi along Highway 25 in the direction of Hanko.

  • 1 Home of Aleksis Kivi (Aleksis Kiven syntymäkoti), Palojoentie 271, +358 40 3174148. The first home of Aleksis Kivi (1834-1872), the national author of Finland. He was born in the Palojoki village.
  • 2 Taaborinvuori, Koulunkulmantie 34, +358 40 3174147. The museum area in Palojoki. Taaborinvuori belonged to the childhood landscapes of the Finnish author Aleksis Kivi. The Kivi Festival (Kivi-juhlat), which has performed the production of Aleksis Kivi since 1952, takes place every summer at the outdoor theatre of Taaborinvuori.
  • 4 Rajamäki House (Rajamäen talo), Jokisentie 66, Rajamäki, +358 50 337 9933, . From 17vJuly to 7 August; only Sundays. A museum, where you can learn about the 19th century life of an old farmhouse and its courtyard. A yeast factory was established on the estate in 1889, thanks to which the Rajamäki area grew into one of the main settlements of Nurmijärvi municipality. Free.
  • 5 Myllykoski Rapids, Siippoontie. A rapids located along the Vantaa River.
  • 6 Nukarinkoski Rapids. A rapids located along the Vantaa River in the Nukari village.
  • 7 Kuhakoski Rapids, Valkjärventie 604. A rapids located along the Vantaa River in the Perttula village. It includes the largest waterfall in the Uusimaa region.
  • 8 Lehtimäki Devil's Rock (Lehtimäen hiidenkivi), Kyläjoentie 227. A glacial erratic near the church village.
  • 9 Numlahti Manor, Lopentie 6. The oldest manor in Nurmijärvi municipality; founded in the 1590s.
  • 10 Rajamäen Ryyppy (Tehdas- ja alkoholimuseo), Patruunantie 17, +358 40 317 2521. Factory and Alcohol Museum near the Hanko-Hyvinkää railway in Rajamäki.
  • 12 Nurmijärvi Church, Aleksis Kiven tie 5. A wooden church from the 18th century.
  • 13 Rajamäki Church, Patruunantie 7. A functionalistic stone church from the 1930s in Rajamäki.

  • 1 Myllykoski Bigwater Festival: (at Myllykoski Rapids). Annually in mid-April. Finland's most demanding extreme kayaking competition since 2004. Free entrance. (date needs fixing)

Finland in general lacks internet cafes as most of the people have connections in their home and in their pocket, and Nurmijärvi is no exception.
