Mergers

[edit]

Ilıca is a beach strip eastern extension of Çeşme. The page is hollow, it's really just a suburb, so I propose merging it here.

Alaçatı is a more substantial village 8 km east. Its old centre, hotels and southern resort strip deserve mention but for me it's not quite substantial enough, so this also I propose merging. Grahamsands (talk)

- DONE tho migrated material is not yet integrated. The Alacati page banner is better than Cesme's, shall we switch? Grahamsands (talk) 21:29, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think Alaçatı could stay, but I wasn't planning to work on it any time soon, so I'm fine either way. I'd support a switch to the Alaçatı banner. Vidimian (talk) 00:25, 27 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it was a marginal call. The factor tipping me to merger was the continuity of transport routes, so functionally it looked like a single settlement (unlike say the Bodrum peninsula villages). For instance a water sports facility in one neighbourhood would serve the others, and might pick up / drop off.
We are lacking coverage of the rest of Çeşme peninsula. I set a marker for Urla on the regional map and it's a candidate for page creation in future. Grahamsands (talk) 14:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Among the travel communmity, Alaçati is one of the most highly-regarded locales in Turkey. It has an entirely different vibe from Çeşme. It has historically been a separate town. Its article is substantial. It should not be merged. Brycehughes (talk) 09:11, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
These travel puffs tell me that it's a POI worth seeing within Çeşme municipality, they don't persuade me it's a stand-alone destination. However I stated earlier it was a marginal call, and what will persuade me is if you put in the work to develop this mediocre page. To help, I've restored the marker on the regional page, so the place isn't "orphaned". Grahamsands (talk) 16:35, 30 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Regardless of their worth, puff pieces (and Instagram for that matter) are how many people discover destinations. They come to Wikivoyage for the details. Whether two locations share transport routes is peripheral to building a useful travel guide. And the Alaçatı article should not be merged regardless of whether I put any work into it or not. Let's agree that the page can be built into something useful, but it will remain outline until someone is in a position to improve it. Grahamsands (talk) 08:53, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Cheers. Brycehughes (talk) 08:03, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
