I don't think Australia is the only country where people have been called Aborigines, though I understand that's considered a slur now in Australia. New Guinea, for example, is also said to have Aborigines. And I don't want a disambiguation on this term in a travel guide. Could we please delete this redirect? - I believe we discussed a similar redirect (Aborigines) a while back at vfd. However, I strongly support speedily deleting this for several reasons:
- Even though the outcome of that vfd was to keep the redirect, nobody will ever search up the singular form of "Aborigines"
- It's a racist slur that is now very offensive in Australia, somewhat like how "eskimo" is offensive in Canada and Greenland. I don't think commonly used in New Guinea either, or at least in Papua New Guinea (which is the only English speaking country on the island, excluding New Guinea's offshore islands that are part of the Torres Strait Islands)
- Why would someone search up an ethnic group in a travel guide?
- Additionally, it's not linked anywhere so it won't cause broken links
- So I support the speedy deletion. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 10:17, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Let's give 24 hours for anyone to object. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:21, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, let's delete this. There's no reason why we should support the use of racist slurs on WV. In the same way, we don't have a redirect of the n-word to an article about African-Americans. The dog2 (talk) 17:13, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
- Or "honky" for an article about white people. Oh, I forgot, we have no article about white people. :-P Deleted.
