Current
Proposed

The current banner is cropped from a cityscape image taken from a major site (St Peter's Church) but IMO it is hazy and doesn't really show the city in a good light.

The proposed, cropped from an image taken in the central square, isn't perfect either, but it's clearer and shows at least two major landmarks (the former parliament building of Hatay and a monument to Kemal Atatürk), and palm trees that are commonly planted throughout the city.

Any thoughts? Vidimian (talk) 13:34, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Any possibility of perspective correction in the proposed replacement? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:27, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
A lower crop of the proposed
Perhaps like the one to the right?
I initially didn't go for this crop, because I was concerned that the cut-off car roofs would look weird. Vidimian (talk) 20:34, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
That's not perspective-corrected, and I prefer the higher crop. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:39, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I had to google the term, and that search lead me to Wikipedia.
So how 'bout this one? It has been rotated (the term used by Commons) -0.63° so the roof of the white building at the right aligns horizontally with the thumbnail. There are multiple prominent vertical objects to consider (poles and trees) and none in the exact centre, so all I could do at CropTool to my knowledge was picking one as a bearing to have more or less perfectly upright and having to leave the rest still distorted (or even more distorted than the original, depending on the position of the object chosen to have aligned vertically with the thumbnail). So I left them be, although the tree near the centre is very to close to being upright.
Perhaps I should have chosen another source image for the banner, but I ran through a lot of pictures from Antakya earlier today and I don't remember seeing another image well enough for a banner (size, image quality, etc) that doesn't pertain to a single site. But even so, the current banner has bothered me for a long time. Vidimian (talk) 21:48, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
