Talk:Bakassi

@Atibrarian: According to w:Bakassi, the Bakassi Peninsula was ceded by Nigeria to Cameroon in 2008. Is this a different place? The article does not identify where Bakassi is, and the only listing is for the airport in Calabar. As in other cases where there is a dispute over sovereignty in a place, Wikivoyage follows effective control over a territory, rather than any country's claim of sovereignty. This is why we treat Somaliland as being separate from Somalia. Ground Zero (talk) 23:11, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also doesn't help that OSM doesn't identify which country Bakassi is. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 23:14, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is a totally different new Bakassi. It was was created as a new home for the Bakassi who refused to give allegiance to Cameroon preferring Nigeria to cameraoon. Atibrarian (talk) 08:50, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you for clearing that up. Ground Zero (talk) 09:50, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Atibrarian, Ground Zero: Should this article then be renamed to Bakassi (Nigeria) then? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:49, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is it necessary? Though, not a bad idea. Atibrarian (talk) 08:01, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose if someone eventually starts Bakassi (Cameroon), then it will be useful to differentiate between the two. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:07, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think our practice is that we create the disambiguation only when it becomes necessary. We don't worry about until someone does create an article about the Cameroon town.
A better question is whether Nigerian Bakassi is part of a larger town -- should we convert this into an article about Ikang (including Bakassi)? Ground Zero (talk) 11:17, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
