Hello, Atibrarian! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

And thank you for creating the Irrua article. I've done some small adjustments to it. If you're interested, you may also want to join the Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition and if you need any help with anything, feel free to ask me, or at the Nigeria cafe. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:20, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Banners[edit]

Hey Atibrarian, just one quick thing. When adding banners, they generally need to be a 7:1 ratio. This can be done by using the CropTool which is pretty easy to use. There's a full explanation on c:Commons:CropTool. But regardless, thank you for all the work you've put in on our Nigeria articles :) --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 05:51, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're doing great work on banners now! Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 12:32, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. Atibrarian (talk) 14:16, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating several articles about places in Bauchi State. I see that you created Jamaare. We already have Jama′are. Is this the same place? If it is then the two articles can be merged. AlasdairW (talk) 20:39, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see!!!
Yeah, it is the same place. I thought it never existed. Though officially, it is spelt as Jamaare not Jama'are. Atibrarian (talk) 21:02, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. As the Wikipedia article is Jama′are, and our article with that name is more developped I think we should use that name. I realise that both names are probably in use but there were some links on the Wikipedia article which supported its spelling. I don't think anything needs to be copied over to do the merger although the descriptions of the Jama′are River are slightly different. Do you agree? AlasdairW (talk) 22:32, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The fundamental question isn't which spelling Wikipedia uses but which spelling is used most often (in English). Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:47, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A search gives me numerous results. Google (as well as Google Maps etc) all use Jamaare as well as the town's official FB page, while Wikipedia and Britannica use Jama′are. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 22:51, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see both online. Our openstreetmap maps use Jemma'are, but I haven't seen that elsewhere. One shop in town has Jama'Are in its address on Google. Streetview doesn't work there so I can't see what the road signs say. AlasdairW (talk) 23:20, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd generally be inclined to use Jamaare though, for technical simplicity. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:15, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The town's official website should carry some weight with us. Should we move the article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:21, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A barncompass for you![edit]

The Nigerian Barncompass
Hey Atibrarian, thanks for all the work you've put in on Wikivoyage about Nigeria articles. They've been looking great so far, and I'm sure many travellers will use them to explore Nigeria. Merry Christmas to you :) --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:04, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Listings in region articles[edit]

Hi Atibrarian, we do not put listings for restaurants, bars and hotels in region articles. They must go in city articles only. The Eat and Drink sections of region articles are optional. If they are included, they should describe what sort of food and drinks are the specialities of the region, and not specific businesses. Please move the listings from Edo State to the correct city articles. Thank you, and thank you for your work in Wikivoyage. Ground Zero (talk) 17:56, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To be clear, we do not put such listings in region articles. Thanks to Ikan Kekek for the correction. Ground Zero (talk) 01:12, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation?[edit]

Ibeku#Understand looks like obvious copyvio, because you even left a useless footnote number in the section, so that's no good. Please read Wikivoyage:Copyleft. It's sometimes reasonable to copy some text from Wikipedia, but you still have to cite it in an edit summary that you type in the "summary" box below your edit screen. Another option, though, is to post credit on the article's "Discussion" page, mentioning which article(s) have had some text taken from them, with a link to them (you can link to Wikipedia articles by preceding their names with "w:"). But please, when you do use text from Wikipedia, edit its format (and when relevant, style) for Wikivoyage.

There's also another issue: Ibeku#Understand says "Ibeku is a town and the administrative headquarter of Umuahia South in Abia State, Nigeria", and Apumiri#Understand says "Apumiri is the name of a town and the administrative headquarters of Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria." I suppose they can't both be?

Finally, on a different and less important matter: the style of section headers on this site is to use sentence case, meaning that in most cases, only the first word of a section header is capitalized. That means "By plane", not "By Plane".

Thanks for reading and for all the work you've been doing, and all the best for the New Year!

Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:18, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification and I will take note of your advice going forward.
On whether Ibeku and Apumiri are from the same place, they are different from each other. Apumiri is from Umuahia South while Ibeku is from Umuahia.
Honestly, I was a bit dizzying while creating the two articles. I had to take hours off to rest my head.
Kind regards. Atibrarian (talk) 15:46, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understand completely. I'm glad you had a chance to celebrate the new year. Stay well and carry on! Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:44, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Templated listings well out of town[edit]

Hi, User:Atibrarian. I'd like to invite you specifically to read and reply to Talk:Yakurr, but more generally: Please do not provide templated listings with geocoordinates of anyplace well outside of whichever town an article is about. The templated listing for an airport in Calabar should be only in the Calabar guide, and then can be linked to in other articles as [[Calabar#By plane|Margaret Ekpo International Airport]]. Similarly, I don't know where Ekuri is, but it would appear not to be in Yakurr. I just checked Google Maps, which shows it as Ekori, 27 minutes' drive and 13 km northwest of Yakurr, so maybe it's close enough to be OK to include in the Yakurr article if it's stated in Yakurr#Understand that the article also covers Ekuri/Ekori, but should the article be named Ekori, and why doesn't Yakurr appear on the map?

Also, a more minor point, but the standard Wikivoyage section header is "By plane", not "By Plane". Site capitalization style is to use sentence case, meaning that it's usually only the first word of each header that's capitalized. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:11, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly, I have yet to find Okobo in the map in the Okobo article, since the listings all seem to be in other cities. Several of them lack their own articles, but there is one for Uyo, so why would anyplace in Uyo be listed in any other article? Ditto for Abak. Could you please make sense of the article by stating in "Understand" which cities it covers? I'll note, too, that the Okobo Local Govt Council Secretariat is noted as being in Okopedi. So what's the name of the city, Okobo, Okopedi or both? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:35, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you list hotels in Umuahia in the Ikwuano article? Please list only in the article for the city in question, if it has its own article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:43, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Atibarian, thank you for your on-going work in Wikivoyage. Are you planning to add some travel content to these articles? I have nominated them for deletion, but if you're going to expand them, I will withdraw the nomination. Best regards, Ground Zero (talk) 21:21, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will expand the articles by adding more travel content to the articles. I have been engaged in other activities recently. Thanks for the reminder. Atibrarian (talk) 06:17, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

VfD discussion[edit]

Hi, Atibrarian. Your participation at Votes for deletion is requested. Please make a comment in the thread where I pinged you the next time you visit this site. Thanks, and I hope you are well. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:35, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Umuahia is located within Ikwuano Local Government Area. Atibrarian (talk) 13:59, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, and what are you getting at? If you mean that listings in Umuahia should be duplicated in the Ikwuano article: no, listings shouldn't be duplicated. However, if you believe the Umuahia article should be merged and redirected to Ikwuano, that's a different argument, but you need to make the argument at Talk:Ikwuano and address why the Umuahia article is so much longer than that one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:42, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile phone coverage text[edit]

Hi, Atibrarian. Could you please not post information about mobile phone coverage that's true nationwide to multiple articles? We deleted all that, because it was spammed unhelpfully and just about verbatim to hundreds of articles. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:02, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't tout guidelines[edit]

Hi, Atibrarian, and thanks for adding this listing, but I would usually revert this kind of listing for violating Wikivoyage:Don't tout, for the following reasons:

"Directions" should give cross streets or some other very specific information to help find the location of the hotel on the ground, not the driving distance from the airport.

The "content" tab is promotional in touting "serene and secured environment" without specifics and giving superfluous location information.

While I have you, there are a few other non-touting-related issues:

(1) Where is Tumfere, and how far is it from Akko? The lede or "Understand" section should state that this article also covers Tumfere, if it does. (2) Gombe and the postal code are omitted from addresses in Wikivoyage listings. (3) Per Talk:Nigeria, noon is just "noon."

Thanks again, and all the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:02, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the notification. My attempt was not to "tout" but to describe the place as the best possible. I have gone the Wikivoyage:Don't tout page and I understand better now.
Tumfere is located within Akko LGA of Gombe State. It share boundary with the state capital Gombe. Atibrarian (talk) 23:35, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I knew you didn't mean to tout. It's probably a good idea to mention Tumfere in the lede or "Understand" section, stating that this article covers it and that it's the next town to the [name of direction - east I think?]. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:47, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
