[edit]This page looks too encyclopedic and not enough travel guide-y. It's also a bit bare-bones. I don't live there, and I'm not exactly going there anytime soon, so please update this if you can. --XndrK (talk) 16:37, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Added a lot of information that I could think about the city. If anyone has more to add, please go ahead and do so. Thanks. De88 (talk) 00:35, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
"Districts" section
[edit]How will that section help the traveler? This is not a huge city template but a large city template; such templates are of undistricted (for Wikivoyage purposes) cities. My suggestion would be that if these districts are useful for visitors to know about, it would be best to add an "Orientation" subsection to "Understand" and explain where they are and what landmarks a visitor should use to go between and travel within these districts. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:07, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
- I gave it much thought as to whether or not to include a District section. After a while, I decided to delete it. You're right. The city isn't as large as Houston or Dallas. My intention was to include the districts and then edit them but it just didn't make sense since the only "official" districts in Brownsville are Southmost and Historic Downtown/Mitte Cultural District. Guide status
[edit]After looking at several WikiVoyage pages, I feel more confident that this page could be a candidate for Guide status. If anyone stumbles on this page, could you take a look and tell me if this page meets the requirements for this status. Thanks. De88 (talk) 04:08, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
- I'd say this article could be upgraded to Guide status now, I think I'll do it right away. More photos would be nice to have, though, the last 2/3 of the article doesn't seem to have any photos whatsoever. ϒpsilon (talk) 04:25, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah I know the article is lacking pictures. Will try to go around the city later this month and take pictures of the scenery and other tourist landmarks. You should visit the city. It's a really nice experience. De88 (talk) 01:30, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- Also, Wikimedia Commons might have some good photos. ϒpsilon (talk) 04:05, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- The problem is that not many residents from Brownsville take pictures of the city and upload them here. There really is not much to choose from. Thanks for the suggestion though! De88 (talk) 01:57, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Progress and remaining tasks
[edit]This article is in great shape. Thanks, De88! I think it's just about ready for a Destination of the month/Off the beaten path nomination (probably OtBP, I'm guessing). One change I just made was to move the tourism info from the "Contact" section to "Understand". Wikivoyage doesn't have a "Contact" section; that section is "Connect", and it's a place to provide info about communications, such as Wi-Fi, cellphone connectivity, and sometimes libraries that provide visitors with Internet time and post offices. A few places (for example, the tourism info bureaus) may need a bit more location info, but the overwhelming majority of listings have Geo, which is great. The article could still use more photos, but it does have 3, and it needs a pagebanner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:41, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! I've had such a hard time finding the right banner for the city. I have one in mind but I need to get in contact with the photographer. By the way, I tried uploading a picture I took of the sunrises in Brownsville and I could not because the picture was "not suitable for Wikimedia Commons". It then says it has a hard time trying to see if the picture is my own and that I should upload pictures that I took, which I did take. Any help on that? De88 (talk) 23:31, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- I don't understand not being able to upload a picture because it was "not suitable for Commons". It's OK to upload other people's pictures, providing they have a suitable Creative Commons license and you give credit to the photographer. But the best place to discuss uploading problems at Commons is probably Commons:Village pump. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:37, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- I tried uploading the picture again and it worked! I imagine the problem was just an error. All good! Thanks for the help! De88 (talk) 00:54, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, how much work is needed to officially nomiate the article for Destination of the month/Off the beaten path? It appears someone uploaded a banner for the page (sending my gratitude to that individual). De88 (talk) 17:12, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Star status
[edit]Just curious, how much more information and pictures does this article need to be considered a "Star" article? De88 (talk) 18:21, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Please click the link "Star articles", below "Main Page" and "Travel destinations", under the WV logo at left. Ibaman (talk) 18:25, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the link. Will check it out. De88 (talk) 18:29, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
Hotels arriving to Brownsville
[edit]I made a small section for hotels that are coming soon to the city. Don't know if this against WikiVoyage policy, that is why I am placing my concern on here. In my perspective, it is great to let visitors know of other hotels that they would like to stay in, that way they can make reservations once the hotel opens. De88 (talk) 22:38, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- I would hide those listings until the locations in question are taking reservations. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:36, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
"Buy" section
[edit]I recall a user mentioning to expand this section more. As of now, does the section have enough information that the average tourist can take from? What else should be added? De88 (talk) 06:51, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- It's definitely improved. I'm wondering about some other categories of businesses. For example, are there good stores that sell Mexican chilis, condiments and so forth, strictly for people to take home (with no taqueria in the back or whatever, although such stores could be listed in "Eat"). What about bookstores that specialize in Spanish-language books or perhaps Tejano music CDs? Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:47, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
"Drink" and "Sleep" sections
[edit]After much editing, I have decided these two sections are probably the only two that need fixing. The "Drink" section seems all over the place and the "Sleep" section is too simple. Any suggestions? After finishing this article, I plan on moving on with the Rio Grande Valley, Port Isabel and South Padre Island pages. De88 (talk) 19:52, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
"Snow event"
[edit]Do you just mean snow, or do you mean snow that doesn't melt when it hits the street? I don't find the phrase clear. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:48, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Pinging User:De88. --ϒpsilon (talk) 18:03, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- When I wrote this (quite a long time ago), I was trying to describe a rare snow event; Yes, snow that doesn't melt when it hits the street. De88 (talk) 19:01, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
- Let's make that clear. I'll make an edit. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:37, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
