Talk:E6 through Sweden and Norway
Add topicBanner
[edit]Tried to add new banner, but wont load. --Erik den yngre (talk) 17:33, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Strange, code looks OK. /Yvwv (talk) 17:42, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- I have been browsing for good photos to use as banner. Some of the photos from Finnmark perhaps, or Gudbrandsdalen along the river (E6 Oppland category). --Erik den yngre (talk) 17:53, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- For the record, there has been some really weird things going on with the banners for little more than a month already. Someone changed something to make banners look better on mobile screens, I don't remember what side effects that had, and the fixing of that and subsequent problems has resulted in one oddity after the other (table of contents turning into a "1" among others). - Also for the record: I flipped the image (mirrored), but only locals will note. --Erik den yngre (talk) 18:38, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Sidetrips
[edit]How long sidetrips can we have in this article? I was thinking of adding Røros and Jotunheimen. ϒpsilon (talk) 19:12, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps a bit restrained. If we add too much most of Norway will be covered, then the article may not make much sense as a separate article. --Erik den yngre (talk) 19:22, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yup, I was a bit suspicious too. Also, in Norway something that's 100 km away as a straight line is often a "little more" than a hour's drive away. :) ϒpsilon (talk) 19:30, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps I have been adding too much. Tromsø for instance is actually not directly on the E6, but the E6 is still the road to Tromsø from Nordland. Road 17 is an important parallel to E6 and important from tourist perspective, it is a 650 km "detour" (like London to Glasgow). Road 3 is mostly an alternative route. --Erik den yngre (talk) 20:02, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Having a look at the map, I think it's no harm in keeping what there is now about roads 3 and 17. They're going in the same direction ie. parallel to E6 and we don't write in length about them, just let people know that they exist. Also, Tromsø can be mentioned. Banner will not load
[edit]I tried to create a new banner for E6 through Sweden and Norway, but only the default banner appears. Dont see any errors in code. Please advise. --Erik den yngre (talk) 17:51, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- There were two {{pagebanner}} templates included on the page. I've removed the second, and your image is now showing. -- Ryan • (talk) • 18:13, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks, did not see the second one! --Erik den yngre (talk) 18:35, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Removed museum
[edit]I removed this because it does not conform to the style of the list * {{listing | name=[[Scandinavian collage museum]] | lat=62.815556 | long=10.034722 | content=A small art museum by the road. It is open 24/7 and you can park outside, in the road on the right hand side, as you go northward. }} --Erik den yngre (talk) 11:19, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Random image
[edit]When I move the cursor to a linked name on the listing, a random image appears. Not the image I added to the listing, nor the image in the Wikipedia article. How to I change this? --Erik den yngre (talk) 11:23, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
What towns are mentioned, what towns get markers?
[edit]For Sweden, only three out of ten linked "cities" have markers. Is there some logic behind this or is it just that nobody has added the listing? I also see towns on the road that aren't even mentioned, such as Kungälv and Stenungssund (redlinked, not mentioned in any article, except for the landslide) between the linked Gothenburg and Uddevalla, and Munkedal (mentioned as train station in Bohuslän and Sotenäs, in passing in Götaland, not otherwise) and Tanumshede between Uddevalla and Strömstad.
I think all the towns should have bullets, with links to whatever article where they are or should be handled, and those articles, existing or not, should be listed in the region page (Bohuslän in these cases). There should not be any gaps in our hierarchy and where there are, the gaps should be redlinked.
One can of course leave out bullets for insignificant towns, but for those following the itinerary, it is nice to recognise any signage to significant towns from it. The 1300-km Highway 4 (Finland) has markers some 30–60 km apart until Lapland (where towns or even villages are sparse), and I don't think they overwhelm the reader – and in the case of the Stenungsund landslide, it would have been very nice to be able to point to the town; luckily sv-wp had an article, which allowed pinpointing the place.

- Agree. I think that bluelinked towns along the road (towns that are naturally linked by E6) should have bullets and markers, but "insignificant" towns can be left out if there are "too many" in the same area (or bullet points for areas if that is more natural).
