Forillon National Park

[edit]
Swept in from the pub

Over the past few weeks I've dug back into my intermittent work bringing Gaspé Peninsula up to Guide status, and Forillon is the latest article that I've brought up to snuff. As is the usual routine when this happens, if someone who is a native speaker of Canadian English (perhaps K7L or Pashley?) could check it over to make sure the article is metricated and all the "u"'s and "re"'s are how they should be, that would be great. Also, perhaps more importantly, this is my first foray into writing a park article for Wikivoyage, so also I'd appreciate if someone who is better versed in that type of article could let me know if I followed the format correctly. Thank you! -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 14:17, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I had a quick scan & saw no obvious problems. Nice work. Pashley (talk) 13:17, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Andre, first, thank you for the great work you're doing on this and the Gaspe articles.

Some minor quibbles and comments:

  • "For the 2018 season, entry fees to Forillon were" sounds awkward as the 2918 season really hasn't begun. I think this should be "are".
  • Your formatting of the prices looks better.
  • "Fees/Permits" vs "Fees and permits" Wikivoyage:Park article template#Fees and permits says to use "Fees and permits". Wikivoyage:Article templates/Sections says to use "Fees/permits". Wikivoyage:Naming conventions#Section headings says "Section headings in articles should follow most of the same formatting conventions as article titles." Wikivoyage:Naming conventions#Capitalization says "For articles that aren't place names, capitalize the first word, and then don't capitalize things that don't need to be capitalized. For example, Discount airlines in Europe rather than "Discount Airlines In Europe"...." Where in Mos does it say that we use title case in section headings? "Permits" is neither a proper noun nor the first word.
    • As an addendum, the template used to use "Fees/Permits". User:Nurg raised capitalization as bring out of step with other policies on the talk page in 2013, and I implemented the change in early 2017 after thete had been no objection in four years.
  • I removed the annual fee info only because I was in a rush to find and didn't have time to check the prices. I doubt that it is really relevant to travellers, but see no harm in having it there.
  • This edit does make grammatical sense, and is shorter and has less filler. It uses a new term, then defines it for readers who may not be familiar with it. In the old version, the new term is used at the beginning of a long sentence, and is explained only by inference at the end if the long sentence. But... whatever.

Keep up the good work. Regards, Ground Zero (talk) 00:40, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kind words, Ground Zero. Re: the issue of section titles, I was unaware of the conflict between Wikivoyage:Park article template and Wikivoyage:Article templates/Sections, and I have no particular personal preference regarding which of the two is used here. If you want to revert, I have no objection. Re: wording in the passage about oTENTik tents, the version I reverted was a sentence fragment, and the fact that it was broken up by both a colon and a sentence-internal dash made it read awkwardly to me. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 05:04, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I see the sentence fragment now. I'm editing on a phone for the next couple of months, so sometimes I will miss things like that. I don't have a problem with the two sentence breaks, but that could be avoided while still making it clearer what is meant by "glamping" like this:
"oTENTik tents are available at the Des-Rosiers and Petit-Gaspé campgrounds: ready-made campsites perfect for "glampers", i.e., those who want a taste of the outdoor experience without giving up all their creature comforts."
Also, why is "kilometres" spelled out every time? wv:units#length says, "Always abbreviate metric units in listings." I can fix this unless you object to the policy. Regards Ground Zero (talk) 21:26, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
"[W]hy is "kilometres" spelled out every time?" - force of habit, given that Imperial units are used much more often within the geographic parameters of my usual Wikivoyage contributions. :) I have no objection to abbreviating these. You also make a good point about providing a clearer definition of "glamping" in the bit about oTENTik tents; I'll try and come up with a better wording for that. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 20:26, 25 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Um, so what's this edit about? Was this a finger slip edit? Ground Zero (talk) 17:13, 4 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. That wasn't a finger slip, that was me misreading your above remarks. I was trying to harmonize the section title with what's prescribed in Wikivoyage:Article templates/Sections after having seen that most park articles do it that way, but I guess I skipped over the part about the capitalization dispute. I fixed it accordingly. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 18:54, 4 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I've fixed the discrepancy between between Wikivoyage:Park article template and Wikivoyage:Article templates/Sections so that they are consistent now. Ground Zero (talk) 22:26, 4 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
