Guan Yu statue[edit]

China Unveils Epic 1,320-Ton God Of War Statue, but quoting a friend's Facebook post:

Just as a point of order: 关羽 (Guan Yu) is *not* a "god of war". He is worshipped in many ways: as a Taoist guardian, as a bodhisattva in Buddhism, and as a representation of brotherhood and companionship in a variety of folk religions. He goes to war (as the deification of a general) but he is not like Ares/Mars. He's more, in this aspect, a god of honourable behaviour in battle if you really want to fit this into a Greek-influenced "god of X" approach to things.

However we describe him, it is worth mentioning this & adding a photo if possible. Pashley (talk) 13:42, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The statue is in Jingzhou, not Jinzhou. STW932 (talk) 08:28, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
