War memorials

[edit]

It seems that they are spread far beyond the borders of Lochem and they would probably be better described in an itinerary-type guide.

I am also not that sure that the registry numbers are so important as to put them in the POIs name - our guides are supposed to be self-sufficient, so if more information is available by following the numbers, we should put it in here. Otherwise, I guess it is reasonably easy to find those monuments in the registry if one would find that interesting or useful for their purposes. PrinceGloria (talk) 20:19, 29 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree. In fact, the section lead suggests that there's an intention to create full lists of "Rijksmonumenten". We should discuss such an initiative before investing too much time and energy in it. I feel that the newly created articles for Gelderland have a somewhat... encyclopaedic character. They contain information in lists, but don't provide any real guidance on how to pick one place over another and they lack the inviting tone of a good travel guide. I don't think we want complete lists of monuments, just as we don't want complete lists of restaurants. We're not the Yellow Pages nor the national heritage registry; we want to point travellers to the most interesting sights and give them suggestions for the best places to eat. I don't think a list of ALL 88 monuments in the small town of Lochem serves the traveller, let alone a similar list for all 6280 of them in Amsterdam... Fair point there. The lists are getting repetitive and may not be useful to all travelers. I'm very much willing to figure out what the best way to list all that there is to see in the Achterhoek, if not Gelderland in general. Personally I think that the Achterhoek is big enough to deserve subarticles, but I do agree that it's too small to have these guides per city/village turn out as useful. I would suggest using an alternative district system for Gelderland, consisting of double (if not more) of the current count of districts. The Achterhoek, for example, can be devided into the Northern and Southern Achterhoek. For Rijksmonumenten, War monuments and other monuments / common places of interest we could create subarticles of subsections about "Rijksmonumenten in the Achterhoek/Gelderland" etc.
TL:DR: Subarticles of the Achterhoek have little that sparks a travellers' interest. I suggest to devide Gelderland into eight or so subregions for the sake of the wiki.
