Error in Rint[edit]

Anyone know why the rail interchange (rint) icons for the Metro in this and other Madrid district articles are showing with an S before the line number? E.g.  1  2  3

As far as I know, we use the same templates as they do on Wikipedia, where the Metro icons are displaying correctly, i.e. with just a number.

Pinging User:Andree.sk, who wrote the majority of this article and seems generally knowledgeable when it comes to templates, as well as being an all-round good egg.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:17, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Good catch... User:Wauteurz rewrote the template from wikipedia-copy to a quite customized version - but with +- the same usage. There are/were some bugs for sure - so unless you can find a reason why keeping it this way ( 1 ,  C-1  - e.g. if without 'S' it would be ambiguous? Doesn't look like it right now, though), I think you can just fix {{rint}} and drop the 'S' prefix... PS: I didn't really write much, just took a clean-up crusade once back then, because this city was a mess :) -- andree.sk(talk) 20:41, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely my doing, yes. I rewrote the template to use {{RbE}} rather than it fetching every logo from a file on Commons. To prevent ambiguity, I added in associated letters where possible necessary as to differentiate between tramlines, buslines, metro lines, the lot. You're more than welcome to change it, but I'd request you add on the mouse-over (|mo) parameter so the label displays some information about the line, such as  52 .

¡Hola! @Andree.sk, Wauteurz: I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you, time got away with me. Thanks for the explanations. What does S stand for; subway? My feeling is that the rint template should show the line logos as they are, rather than adding a letter which the traveller won't see on maps or in stations, the reason being that there are lines in Madrid which carry a letter: the light metro line numbers are prefixed with "L", and the shuttle from (off the top of my head) Sol to Principe Pío is called "R", so it is possible that readers will think the "S" is part of the official line designation. Plus, of course, S-prefixed line numbers are commonly used in Germany.
A popup as Wauteurz suggests would be good for desktop users, but as it stands the mobile functionality isn't there. Would it be possible to include the Metro diamond logo i.e. the blatant rip off of the Tube logo :P, in the rint template immediately before the line numbers? That would solve both the ambiguity and mobile compatibility issues.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:04, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
S was most likely standing for Subway, yes. It has been over a year since I named it though, which makes it to where I am not sure at all what my intentions were. Regardless, I have updated the template with the following changes:
  • Metro lines now have mouse-over functions:  1  to  1
  • Ramal got visual updates as well as mouse-over functions:  R  to  R
  • Metro Ligero got visual distinctions and mouse-over functions:  MLx  to  1
  • Cercanías got visual updates and mouse-over functions:  C-1  to  C-1
Full overview of line numbers as they stand now: RINT/doc#Madrid.
Once again, the goal of these labels is to emulate the ones used as much as possible. Adding in the logo's for the lines is an option, but not preferred. As mentioned in previous discussions, since the template itself tries its best to make sure the reader is aware of any line 1 being part of the Metro, Metro Ligero or Cercanías, making the logo's of the network superficial. Additionally, having to use these logo's reintroduces dependency on Commons for the images, and clutters up {{Station}} with double information. Currently, the mouse-over tooltip not showing on mobile is an accepted flaw of the template. I don't have plans to change it any time soon either, since the goal is to modify the labels to be sufficient in information without the mouse-overs.
Regardless, I could not find anywhere that mentions the ML-lines with only the L as a prefix. It's without anything on the icon, which is what I have gone for, or ML-×, with × being the line number. I hope this all is enough to resolve the issue, but if there's anything else, all you need to do is ask :)

Also, additional note, the ML-lines as they stood in the templates worked more or less as a catch-all, outputting whatever was behind {{rint|madrid|. My thinking is that someone entered the lines as "S-whatever" into RINT, which would have pumped out "S-whatever" as the result. This would mean the existing instances for Madrid would be broken now, which I'll go ahead and check, since I would have hereby broken them. It wasn't a problem in RINT if this were the case though.

@Wauteurz: Thanks again, and good job on the new update! --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 13:51, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
