The US having an embassy representing itself to itself?[edit]

Now I guess Northern New York might be considered a whole other country, by some, but why is there a "US embassy"? Has something been mislabled by accident? Hobbitschuster (talk) 13:57, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the map, the embassy is on the Canadian side in Ottawa. The address listed in the article is a P.O. box. I assume this is in the event you want to mail something to the embassy, not if you want to visit. The listing can probably be safely removed.DethDestroyerOfWords (talk) 14:11, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but make sure it is listed in Ottawa. Hobbitschuster (talk) 14:17, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The address is valid. The US Embassy picks up mail in Ogdensburg every second day. I don't know of any other embassies that do this (and it'd be a long trip home to pick up mail for some), but it's been there for years. Why would we list an Ogdensburg address in Ottawa? It's a PO box. What relevance to travel has the PO Box of the embassy? The Address tab in listings is not intended for mailing but for finding the place listed. Hobbitschuster (talk) 14:29, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. I would consider deleting the listing right away if there were no discussion here, but the policy point is that we don't list P.O. Boxes in address tabs, and people who are online would probably find it more convenient to contact the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa by email, anyway. I would if anything include the information in the listing for the embassy in Ottawa#Embassies and High Commissions, as the likelihood of someone who wants to snail-mail to the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa from within the U.S. looking for the P.O. Box in the Ogdensburg article is close to nil. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:45, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
