Firstly not convinced this is a Guide article as all the pronunciation guides are missing. I also found a banner but cannot see the 'Wikidata' section in the Tools to upload it. Mitchea99 (talk) 20:43, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's because banners need to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons unless they're of unfree images. See Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition. This article is far from a guide and isn't even remotely usable. Whoever changed the status to guide, that was either a misunderstanding or a joke. I will change the status right away. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:32, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

days of the week/months[edit]

i have the days of week and months but i do not know how to make it into english pronunciation. i plan on working alot with this page as my family speaks okinawan (where from okinawa) however as their are many different languages in the ryukyu islands i do not if they are universal nor do i know how to make it into english Garden of Flowers (talk) 11:39, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

alphabet[edit]

how should i go about writing the alphabet and pronunciation section? Garden of Flowers (talk) 14:00, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you'll find other experts in Ryukyuan here, so I'd say do your best. Also, if you are fluent and speak with a Ryukyuan accent, recording you saying the words in the phrasebook and linking the sound files would be the most helpful thing you could do to help readers understand how to pronounce the language. See the Portuguese phrasebook, which is a star-level article, for an ideal example to emulate. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:37, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try my best, I don't think I can link sound files but I can just write them? Should be easy Garden of Flowers (talk) 14:29, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

I don't think there's a single language called "Ryukyuan". There is a family of Ryukyuan languages. So if this is based on the Ryukyuan language of the main island of Okinawa, the title should be Okinawan phrasebook. But I don't know which Ryukyuan language this is based on. I think this is based on the Okinawan language, I want to change the name of the article to reflect that but im not sure if I should Garden of Flowers (talk) 14:27, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm inclined to think the change would be a good idea, if only because far more readers will recognise "Okinawan" than "Ryukyuan". Pashley (talk) 15:03, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do too, the 1st section has words in Okinawan that I don't think are in other Ryukyuan languages, if you think its best then I will change it Garden of Flowers (talk) 15:17, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, in that case let's re-name this to "Okinawan phrasebook". If someone speaks them, we can always have phrasebooks for the other Ryukyuan languages. The dog2 (talk) 21:15, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ive tried to rename the page, but it wont let me, so if someone knows how too please do so, and I will start researching on other Ryukyuan Languages for other phrasebooks Garden of Flowers (talk) 13:19, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done. The dog2 (talk) 13:27, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Phrasebooks for other Ryukyuan languages would be harmless but not particularly useful; if a speaker of one of those wanted to start a phrasebook, I'd say go for it, but I doubt it is worth a research effort. Your time might be better spent on the Okinawan phrasebook or on destination articles. Pashley (talk) 13:55, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems most have a few thousand speakers, I cant tell if the number is small or large because it mixes speakers with natives, but I might work on destination articles Garden of Flowers (talk) 14:57, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── @Garden of Flowers: As it turns out, we already have phrasebooks for Yaeyama and Yonaguni, but I can't vouch for their accuracy. The dog2 (talk) 16:28, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
