Panhandle image

[edit]

Hi, I created this image and would love some feedback. Bad colors? Don't like the 3D part? I just thought this would be more interesting than the normal everyday maps. Is there a city you want to add? Just let me know on my user talk page and i'll put it in(WT-en) Troy34 15:57, 29 March 2006 (EST)

Change to "Texas Panhandle"

[edit]

WV:Naming conventions states "it is important to remember to use the common name and to avoid the temptation to create a region with a name like "Northeast (Ohio)". Given that advice, "Texas Panhandle" would be a more appropriate name for this region than "Panhandle (Texas)". Any objection to a rename? -- Ryan (talk) 05:43, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a good change. There should be a disambiguation page under "Panhandle", but otherwise, the Texas Panhandle and, for example, the Oklahoma Panhandle and Florida Panhandle are all recognized regions and seem more intuitive as regular phrases as they come, rather than names with parentheses. Shouldn't panhandle redirect to begging? K7L (talk) 07:17, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
No. Instead, that meaning of "panhandle" should be included in the disambig page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:25, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I am all in favor of the move. It just comes more naturally; especially as a search term... Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:50, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done Thanks for the feedback. I've renamed the article to Texas Panhandle, added Begging to the Panhandle disambiguation page per User:K7L, and also renamed the awkwardly-named Panhandle (Texas, city) article to occupy the old Panhandle (Texas) article name, with a {{confused}} hatnote at the top pointing to Texas Panhandle just in case someone accidentally goes to the city article page thinking they are going to the region page. All-in-all this seems like a solid cleanup. -- Ryan (talk) 16:15, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
