Merge?[edit]

Pinehurst, Aberdeen (North Carolina), and Southern Pines are three small towns that are very close together—so close that, for example, this hotel in Aberdeen has "Southern Pines-Pinehurst" in its name. Moreover, they seem to be discussed as a group reasonably often online (example 1 example 2). The attractions seem to be limited (mostly golf) and all three articles are pretty short. I've never been to these towns so I could be wrong, but it looks to me like it might be a good idea to merge them.

If we do merge them, I'm not sure what the title of the merged article should be. Maybe Pinehurst and Southern Pines, following the example of the North Carolina tourism website? Or Sandhills?

If we don't merge them, maybe we should make them their own region. It could be a fourth subregion of Piedmont (North Carolina). I think it's a bit of a stretch to call them part of the Research Triangle anyway.

Any thoughts? Like I said, I've never been to these towns, so input from someone who's familiar with them would be especially appreciated. —Granger (talk · contribs) 02:08, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two years later, no one has weighed in. Today I talked to someone from North Carolina who agreed with my sense that it's too much of a stretch to call these towns part of the Research Triangle. If no one objects, I'll create a new region article Sandhills under Piedmont (North Carolina). —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You now seem to be the resident expert on the area, so you should use your judgement and plunge forward. Ground Zero (talk) 15:45, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've created the Sandhills article and reorganized breadcrumbs etc. accordingly. I still wonder whether these towns should have their own articles or all be merged to Sandhills as a single city article, but I'm happy deferring that question until I get a chance to travel to the Sandhills or we get an editor who's more familiar with the area. —Granger (talk · contribs) 02:01, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
