Never ever yell to a policeman in Southamerica! You will get in really big trouble. Try to be polite and patient.

Hotels, rooms & sleep[edit]

I cut from the understand section, but this info should be in the sleep section. I don't think it's very usefull though. -- (WT-en) Ronald 17:56, 6 March 2006 (EST)

Hotels, rooms & sleep[edit]

The Budget is not realy a problem, in Quito there are many 5 star luxury hotels like J.M Marriot, Swissotel, Hilton, Plaza, Radisson, Sheraton, Dan Carlton, Hotel Quito, Mercure, Howard Johnson etc. but there are millions of nice, clean and cheap (5-7 USD including a huge brekfast) hostels and guesthouses, there are also a lot of "Victorian style houses" built in the early 1900 wich are now small and beautiful hotels, most of them in "La Mariscal"

Headliner pic[edit]

The "Shoe Shine Boy" seems to have the boy a bit too dominant in the pic, I'd say; others agree? (WT-en) Zepppep 17:29, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

A very strong argument could be made that this photo should be deleted in accordance with the "people in photos" guideline, so I definitely agree. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:33, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

Needed fixes[edit]

There are red links to non-articles and external links in the deprecated footnote format, and based on the dates given for various bits of information (2009, 2012, etc.), updates are needed. Some copy editing and work on format also looks necessary. Right now, this article contains a lot of information but is not a strong Guide. If it's updated, fixed and polished, with some more photos, it could be a good DotM feature. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:22, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, User:Ariconte posted the following in "Get in/By plane" as a warningbox before I took it down: "This information is old and does not reflect the new airport." The fact that I don't think something other than a threat to life and limb shouldn't be posted as a warningbox does not contradict the importance of Ariconte's point. —The preceding comment was added by Ikan Kekek (talkcontribs)

Toward DotM[edit]

I'm on the lookout for candidates for the December 2017 DotM slot. I considered this article, but upon closer inspection it needs too much work to justify nominating at this time. But for anyone interested in taking on a challenge, here's what Quito needs, IMO, before it's ready for prime time:

  • The article needs a dynamic map, and all listings should have geo coordinates.
  • The "Do" section is the biggest problem. Most of what's listed there belongs in either "See" ("Explore the Old Town", the Middle of the World, the TelefériQo, Pichincha Volcano) or the as-yet-nonexistent "Learn" section (the Spanish schools). The walking tour constitutes a personal itinerary and should be deleted.
  • The "By train" subsection needs to be moved from "Get around" to "Get in".
  • The "By car" subsection of "Get around" should really contain more information than just "don't even bother trying". Realistically, some people are going to do it anyway. Some information on the layout of the city streets, parking regulations, rush hours, etc. would not only be a nice addition to the section, but emphasizing the hassle of it all while doing so might end up being a more convincing way to drive home the idea that driving in Quito is not a good idea.
  • There should also be a "By car" subsection of "Get in".
  • "Eat" and (especially) "Connect" need to be expanded.
  • "Go next" needs to be converted to one-line listings with internal links.
  • All sections with listings should be alphabetized, and in most cases split up by category.

Is this article ready to feature? /Yvwv (talk) 20:29, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say so, though it's getting there. Many listings lack coordinates, some sections could use some expansion still, Eat needs price categories, a few more photos here and there wouldn't hurt, and how up to date is the article? Ypsilon (talk) 20:46, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
