What sites should be listed?[edit]

I'm assuming we don't want to list every Ramsar site there is. That would be hundreds of sites, most of dubious touristic value, and would also include a lot of very fragile sites that would be better served with little or no publicity. Any thoughts on when a site should or should not be included in this article? Mrkstvns (talk) 01:53, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I would actually see no harm in listing all of the Ramsar sites (cf UNESCO World Heritage List). However, if we want to pick out only some of them, I would go for those with visitor offices or any other kind of visitor amenities, e.g. birdwatching huts or a cafe serving the visitors. That would also likely leave out those that are so fragile that we wouldn't want to promote tourism. Vidimian (talk) 14:19, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
So far, I've included only sites that are somewhat well known and that have some kind of infrastructure for visitors, if not a site office or visitor services, at least nearby tour guides who provide boats and such.
Closely related question: How should we handle the markers? There are many hundreds, if not thousands, of Ramsar sites and we will cross the "99" limit very soon. Should different types or colors be used for different regions? Should there be individual maps per region rather than one global map? Mrkstvns (talk) 14:50, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Re: marker numbers possibly over 99, there are some solutions I'm aware of, though none are perfect IMO: the Roman Empire article uses regional maps and a |counter parameter in listings, while the Grand old hotels article utilizes a scheme of slightly different colours for continents by specifying it in a |type parameter. New topic: Ramsar sites[edit]

Swept in from the pub

Since Ramsar sites are often tourist attractions, I've created this travel topic, starting from the Ramsar sites in India. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 06:08, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I'd never heard of these, but they sound nice. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:37, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Europe[edit]

The article says Europe has the most Ramsar sites, over 1100, yet we do not list any there. Pashley (talk) 22:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
