Yellow pages?

Being a Yellow Pages for a town is specifically listed as a non-goal of this site. And we also have Wikivoyage:Boring, which states that chains normally shouldn't be listed. So why is it that a florist and a hockey equipment store - presumably not particularly travel-relevant - and Best Buy, Toys "R" Us and Walmart are listed? And are there really 28 worthwhile eateries in this town of a bit over 26,000, per Wikipedia? And why is a recycling centre that's obviously for residents listed under "Cope"? Some of the other listings in that section look more like "Do" listings because they host shows or tournaments visitors might want to view. Veillg1, we all appreciate how enthusiastic and prolific you are, but could you please explain how you are thinking about this article and how all those listings really fit in with this site's guidelines? Listings in "Do"

In § Do, I question the existence of the last two listings (the tennis and the soccer ones), and I have a few questions:

• Unless you find a tennis court in a holiday apartment, why would random travellers want to have a game of tennis in a random town? I thought tennis courts like these were more aimed at locals
• What is the "football" referring to? Soccer, or Canadian football? If I'm not mistaken (@Ground Zero:, please correct me if I'm wrong), doesn't football automatically refer to Canadian football in Canada, just like how football in the US automatically refers to American football, or how in most of Australia, football refers to Australian rules football. However, as most of this article smells of machine translation (which is fine, but needs to be done with care), I'm getting the feeling that it is referring to soccer.
• Thirdly, given that it's just another ordinary soccer field, wouldn't this count as wv:boring?

Football would normally mean Canadian football, such as that played by the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. But conveniently, a Canadian football field is 10 yards longer than an American football field. FIFA decrees that a FIFA football (soccer) field must be between 110 and 120 yards long, so Canadian fields typically can be and are used to play either game. Soccer is more commonly played at the recreational or school levels than football, as it doesn't require all the ridiculous equipment.

I agree, though, that a typical traveller is not looking for a soccer field, or a tennis court. Ground Zero (talk) 02:08, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
