Talk:Salem (Massachusetts)
Add topicIt's been 10 years since I was in Salem so I can't very well write about any of it. The wax museum was very tacky and should probably be avoided. -- (WT-en) Nils 06:52, 22 Jul 2004 (EDT)
Salem (Massachusetts) article in serious condition
[edit]I won't call it critical, but for such a highly visible tourist attraction, the Salem guide is in horrible shape, with all kinds of terrible formatting and touting problems. I just slapped a "style" tag with some remarks on the "Eat" section and did major excisions and detouts, but the section still looks dreadful, and "Drink" and other sections are also in big trouble. To hearken back to Salem's olden days as a seaport, this calls for all hands on deck. Anyone's attention and participation in the cleanup of this article would be time well spent. What A Mess
[edit]If we choose to choose "the worst formatted page in the whole Wikivoyage", maybe this one will win easily? I will plunge forward here in a very near future and try to smooth things up. 200.252.135.73 18:58, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
- Your help is much appreciated. This article is in terrible shape. I just cleaned up the "Eat" listings a lot, and they are still a mess. The "Drink" listings, at a glance, seem just as bad. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:46, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Too Many Links
[edit]It's perhaps just me, but this page seems somewhat bewildering - there are loads of links - perhaps the number could be cut down?--Nicholasjf21 (talk) 17:40, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
- Please be ruthless. I've taken a chainsaw to a lot of it, but it is still a mess of touting, duplicative listings and bad format. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:45, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Copyedits?
[edit]Hello @Ikan Kekek and @Ground Zero! I've been chipping away at this article for awhile now, and I think at this point it could use some extra eyeballs/copy-editing/grammar-policing if you have the time and interest. No worries at all if you're busy or anything else. Oh and just for fun, here's what the article looked like in 2013, before you started chopping at it ikan! Anyways, thanks again! ButteBag (talk) 14:09, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- It looks a lot better now. Great work! Ground Zero (talk) 20:31, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the help! LOL, you didn't like subbing gratis for free. Thanks again GZ, these pesky little tweaks really do make the whole site feel so much more coherent. Hope you're having a great summer! ButteBag (talk) 23:39, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- Also, damn, the ol' capital capitol switch-a-roo gets me every time, ugh. ButteBag (talk) 23:43, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gratis didn't seem to add anything, but possible confusion for readers unfamiliar with the term. Ground Zero (talk) 01:01, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
Guide?
[edit]What needs to be done before this article meets the requirements for guide? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 00:55, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hah, it's seemed like a guide to me for awhile now. Guess I just forgot about changing the status. I'll update, thanks for noticing! ButteBag (talk) 01:41, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

- Here's a link to the image that maybe we can use here with fair use after it's deleted? https://www.flickr.com/photos/marcn/46879437164/ I don't really know anything about copyrights. Have you been dealing with stuff like this @Ikan Kekek? ButteBag (talk) 01:26, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. The solution is to upload the image that's on the page locally, which is the first one. See Wikivoyage:Upload file and Wikivoyage:Non-free content#Exemption Doctrine Policy. The second image is not visible on the page, so there's no reason for us to care greatly about it. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:22, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
