Why is Scarborough being re directed to here, where there are many other larger places? What is the criteria doing so? —The preceding comment was added by 67.70.148.41 (talkcontribs)

The guidelines for naming articles are in the naming conventions policy. I suspect it was point #4, that this Scarborough was considered more "famous" than the others (particularly since Scarborough, Ontario is part of Toronto), so "Scarborough" directs here. -Shaundd (talk) 05:21, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this is the main Scarborough – is it more well-known than the Ontarian Scarborough? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 01:14, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It would be around the world, for example considering Simon & Garfunkel's cover of "Scarborough Fair." Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:36, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't know about Scarborough Fair (I have to admit my knowledge of ballads is next-to-zero). In that case, I guess this can remain as-is. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:58, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Scarborough, Ontario, is now a part of Toronto, and it is not a big tourist draw, aside from the Toronto Zoo. The Scarborough Bluffs are nice. Scarborough is often unkindly derided as "Scarberia", a place of subdivisions, strip plazas and industrial parks. Unkindly, but not unfairly. Ground Zero (talk) 20:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reflecting on it now, I think why I had the slight bias towards Ontario was because of that subway line (Line 3, now closed). --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:17, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's pretty embarrassing to have it stop working months before it was scheduled to be taken out of service, and at least 7 years before the replacement line is opened. Sheesh. Ground Zero (talk) 22:36, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, 7 years before the new line is opened?!? At least 7 years from now, there'll be a seamless connection to Line 2... --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 22:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I should have written it as "7 years" to indicate that this is a euphemism. I don't think anyone in Toronto believes that the Line 2 extension will be open in 2030. Ground Zero (talk) 01:44, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I feel dumbfounded lol :-(. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 01:51, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
