Ideas

[edit]

Ruby D-Brown, I appreciate you starting this article. Thank you for being willing to Wikivoyage:Plunge forward and take on the advanced task of creating a new article. I made some changes (some to the contents, and others just to the appearance), and I hope you will improve it more.

I wonder if this article could be written for two different audiences. The first is for a Ghanaian. Perhaps she is from Ho and her friend is from Accra, and they have agreed to meet in Somanya because it's halfway between the two cities. Where does the bus stop (is at Akutunya Market?)? Is there a restaurant or another good place to meet? They will know how Ghana works, but they'll need some specific information.

The second audience I have in mind is for a non-African person. This person will need a more hand-holding. Perhaps you could imagine this person as a Black American who is visiting Somanya because their great-grandparents came from somewhere in the Volta basin. There is no need to repeat the contents of Ghana, but this is their first trip to Africa, and they will need to be told things about Somanya like whether there is an open-air market, which days it is open, what it sells, how to get there (is there parking for a car, or is it better to walk there?), what's the best time for a visitor to go there, whether it is good for people with special needs (is it on the street, and the children might run into traffic? Is there a place to sit if Grandma gets tired? Will a baby stroller be awkward?), where to buy souvenirs and which ones are best (local beads? kente cloth?), and so on.

I hope that you like my ideas. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:29, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also, is the university really a sight, or is it a place that should be listed in an optional "Learn" section? Can foreigners spend a year abroad there, or are short-term courses offered to non-matriculated students? Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:49, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
https://www.uesd.edu.gh/event/sustainable-development-conference/ indicates that they have occasional conferences, so it may be the primary destination for some travelers. http://apps.uesd.edu.gh/admissions/ has a separate button for foreign students, so they appear to take non-Ghanaian students. It might be a good candidate for a ==Learn== section. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:25, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
