Beginning even earlier?

[edit]

I figured the itinerary could begin with the Viking sites of Birka and Adelsö (or even Sigtuna?). Yes, they aren't administratively part of the City of Stockholm but still the predecessors of Stockholm as the city in the region. The ferries coming from there apparently sail to Klara Mälarstrand and from there one could easily walk down Centralbron to the Old town (and as a bonus doesn't have to just look at Riddarholmskyrkan from a distance) and further to the City Museum where the itinerary now starts. --Ypsilon (talk) 13:04, 14 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

The tour used to have a prologue which is now described in the Södermalm heights tour. We can consider a prologue around Mälaren too. /Yvwv (talk) 08:13, 15 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yup, now the article spans an ever longer period of Stockholm history.
And for the epilogue, I also thought of ending it in a rooftop bar in a modern building (I didn't read the last third of the article properly) but I see the itinerary already ends that way (great minds think alike and so on :D). But I was thinking of having the reader ditch the walking, and jump on tunnelbanan up to Kista, and to the rooftop bar of the glass-and-steel Scandic Victoria Tower. Just a thought. --Ypsilon (talk) 14:28, 15 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

A$AP Rocky incident?

[edit]

The 2019 assault incident involving A$AP Rocky (Rakim Mayers) happened at Hötorget, which is in the walk's last leg, which conveniently has a crime-scene theme. The case got enormous attention in both Swedish and American media and got US President Donald Trump to pressure Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. Could it make the tour, or is it too extraordinary? /Yvwv (talk) 23:41, 4 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

October redirect

[edit]

By the end of October, the new bridge across Slussen opens to the public. The beginning of the tour will be directed. Would any specific street be preferred to reach Järntorget? /Yvwv (talk) 15:18, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

No, if it still basically goes along the same routing, beginning at Katarinahissen, straight up to Slusstorget and then to Järntorget which is just one block north. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:16, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

The marker in the lead section

[edit]

The one for Stockholm; is it necessary? Sorry to say but IMO it really looks out of the place. If it's for the link to the Wikipedia article about Stockholm, I think this can be added to the sidebar with Template:Wikipedia link like before Wikidata. There are plenty of markers from the individual POIs on the dynamic map, so the reader should have no doubt where in the world Stockholm is. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:39, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree – remove the marker. In addition to looking out of place in the lead, it's confusing on the map. —Granger (talk · contribs) 20:58, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
The first marker in the article provides the popup image for links, through Wikidata. When we read another article (such as Swedish Empire) and mouse-over the link to Stockholm history tour, it will currently show a popup image of Stockholm. If the Stockholm marker is removed, it displays an image of Uppsala instead, which is very inappropriate. Will try a workaround. /Yvwv (talk) 22:57, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see. This is a problem that many of our articles have—a lot of them show uninteresting popup images of train stations and airports, because that's what the first marker in the article often represents. It would be good if we can find a solution to fix this problem for all articles. —Granger (talk · contribs) 05:46, 1 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
That sucks :/ But the itinerary does have a Wikidata instance (I suspect it was created by our friend Telstra, since blocked on WD) - maybe it's possible to define a certain photo for the article there? Ypsilon (talk) 16:28, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't think so. If memory serves, there is no good solution, which that would have been. I think the extension uses the first image in the article (usually in Understand), if that one has the right dimensions. If so, many articles got sensible images instead of those in Get in. We might want to find the bug report or the discussion in the Pub. –LPfi (talk) 10:43, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
It seems the "view from Slussen", the first image in Go, is used now. –LPfi (talk) 10:47, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Excavation

[edit]

During early 2021, an archaeological excavation will take place at Södermalmstorg. /Yvwv (talk) 11:46, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Right at the beginning of our itinerary, what a great addition to the article! --Ypsilon (talk) 12:45, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
