I'm pretty sure this should be at Sydney/Chinatown per our Project:Article naming conventions. Just thought I'd do a sanity check before moving... (WT-en) Maj 10:16, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

I can't vouch for sanity :) but that would be a good move. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 10:17, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

Pictures?

[edit]

Since I don't know how to add pictures on to Wikivoyage, I was wondering if anyone found any pictures on the Chinatown that aren't copyright, could you please add them. Thanks (WT-en) Movie-lover93 23:21, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

Hiya! It's not to hard to add your own images.... check out Project:How to add an image and feel free to ask any questions you might have! (WT-en) Maj 23:27, 28 July 2006 (EDT)

Haymarket

[edit]

I think Haymarket makes a better name for this area, and the surrounding one. Chinatown and Haymarket could still redirect here. Includes the area to the west of Central to UTS, Capitol Centre, Railway Square, down to Liverpool St and the Entertainment Centre. --(WT-en) Inas 23:25, 23 February 2009 (EST)

Here's one that I've got. The issues for me with the current one is that Central Station is one of most notorious places for crime and is never a place where someone would want to be. Meanwhile Chinatown on the contrary, is much more livelier and a place where someone would not want to avoid. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 00:47, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I support the new banner – thanks for making it. —Granger (talk · contribs) 18:15, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
(Sorry Ypsilon... although the current could be used for a future Sydney trains article) SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:42, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I must say the Central station didn't feel that threatening back in 2013 (There was a drunk guy asking for "a dollar, or two, or maybe three" outside the station though he didn't seem threatening either :) ), and I think it's an impressive building and an it's also important gateway to the city. --Ypsilon (talk) 13:15, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Central Station has got much more dangerous these days, compared to about 10 years back. I largely avoid Central these days given the high rate of crime these days and just hop on at Town Hall these days (1km from Central). Probably see like 10 drunk guys every time asking for money, asking around at least 5 to 10 bucks. And not to forget it's gotten worse with the pandemic.
And some local stories, the currently unused Platform 26 and 27 has some ghost stories too although those platforms are planned to be re-used. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 13:29, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
That would be a less pleasant first impression of Australia. Well, anyways I'm fine with changing the banner. --Ypsilon (talk) 14:04, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
At least... no one would want to get their first impression of Australia in parts of the Great Barrier Reef. Was a nice place when I lived near there about 10 years ago but climate change has made it near dead (based on my last visit in 2019).
To crime, I'd say walking on the streets of Melbourne after dark is never pleasant. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 14:19, 18 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
