Delicasies?

[edit]

Current text says you can buy "empanada, longganisa, panutsa (peanut brittle), tapa, and tawilis." I live in Taal & don't know what all of those are; I'm not certain a non-Filipino visitor will know any.

Can someone please add translations or explanations? Also, shouldn't it be empanadas? Pashley (talk) 01:09, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Well, I've wrote those (those are food items Taal is known for), and they can be better discussed in the "Eat" section.

To explain those:

  • Empanada - a kind of sweet baked pastry made of ground meat, potatoes, onions or chives wrapped in sweet wheat flour dough, and baked or fried. There are many versions of the Filipino empanada, of which the Taal variant is just one.
  • Longanisa - a kind of pork sausage, also has many varieties in the Philippines.
  • Tapa - smoked meat, usually beef
  • Tawilis - a species of sardine (S. tawilis) endemic to Taal Lake.

I think Pashley's point is that these foods should be explained in the article for foreigners who won't know what they are. Alternatively, for those that are countrywide, a link to the relevant section of Philippines#Eat could be provided. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:10, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes Done. I copied Taga's text above into the eat section & made some other edits. Pashley (talk) 15:41, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
