Strip shows

[edit]

OK, this is the randomest question I've ever asked on Wikivoyage, but... what is it with Uzbeks and strip shows? (Which, as the article notes, are apparently "common" in Tashkent too.) I was recently dragged into a nightclub in Jakarta of all places that imports some of its dancers from there, although the two countries are both notionally Muslim and rather far apart to say the least...!? I have often wondered where the statistics for religion come from. My experience in many countries that are notionally Muslim, is that they are far from that. Tashkent is only one example, Sierra Leone is also largely Christian rather than Muslim, as the widely accepted information would suggest. Certainly a walk around Tashkent will dispel any impression that Islam is a major factor in the life of people there. The Uzbek government is also ruthlessly secular. The most immediate answer is that our figures come from the CIA. Don't ask me where they get them. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 17:07, 2 August 2006 (EDT)
I have noticed that the World Factbook is very inaccurate in places. I use it in my travels. I think a lot of their figures and facts are guesses. I know they calculate population statistics for a lot of counties by adding a percentage to the last years figure. You don't have to do this for many years before the figures are meaningless. But it is a free publication, so it is hard to complain! (WT-en) Davidbstanley 04:36, 3 August 2006 (EDT)

Uzbekistan is one of the most fun places I have ever been!! So Cheap and the locals are fun too.

Safety and security

[edit]

My own experience over the last year of regular visits to Tashkent is that it is a very safe place. I feel more comfortable in Tashkent than in may cities in Europe/US. Though the travel advice form the US in particular is very 'conservative', no one should worry too much about going there. Even for US citizens, it is likely to be a good place for a visit. I have never had any problems walking around the city and I do walk after dark! I have only once been asked for identification by police (on the Metro). I did not have any (I never carry it) and he was not too bothered.

I am not sure I would describe it as one of the most fun places as mentioned above, but it is very cheap! (WT-en) Davidbstanley 02:09, 9 November 2006 (EST)

Uzbekistan is a very interesting and fun place to visit. During my recent trip to Uzbeksitan, I visited many of it's beautiful! cities. The hotels were comfortable with freindly staff and great service. I loved the architecture and many historical sights we visited. I felt safe when I was taking walks after dinner. The prices were higher than I expected, most of everyday expences weren't much lower than prices in US, guess they seem cheap for Europian visitors.

(edit conflict) No FoP in Uzbekistan. Do we want this image locally, though? Seems to be low-quality so I'm going to say no. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:15, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Exactly. I also think there are probably enough images in the article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:20, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
