FTT?[edit]

This article is a guide, so maybe we'll be able to feature it sometime next summer? Is the article still missing something? ϒpsilon (talk) 16:45, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing over route description from Wikipedia[edit]

In this article's FTT nomination it was desired to have more information about landscapes and sights between the stations, something that the Wikipedia article about the Canadian describes quite well.

Anyone objecting to copypasting over the description as it is? (of course adding the appropriate tag to this talk page as policy requires) This would potentially save this piece of useful travel information, because as you can see it might eventually get deleted on WP because it's made up of original research which is a big no-no over there. -- ϒψιλον (talk) 16:04, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose that would be a good idea, although the text probably should be edited to fit, if not at once, at least over time. Better than having a note on the talk page is linking to the copied version from the history (edit summary). You get a permanent link from the left margin (before entering edit mode) or from the history. The most handy format is [[w:Special:Permalink/<oldid>|w:The Canadian (train)#Route]], where <oldid> is replaced by the number after &oldid= in the permanent URL (don't use addresses with &diff=next, and if there is a &diff=, that is probably the oldid you want). You might want to look back in the history a bit, if somebody already has removed significant parts. --LPfi (talk) 11:07, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Prices[edit]

Are the prices in US$ or C$? It says: "Based on double occupancy and including taxes, this cabin can cost over $7,500 for the entire Toronto - Vancouver trip" – is the price per person or the pair? Philaweb (talk) 22:35, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Prices in Canadian articles will have prices on Canadian dollars unless otherwise noted. Ground Zero (talk) 22:43, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More info?[edit]

I'll be riding from Vancouver to Toronto on The Canadian. What information or photographs are needed for this article? - Kosboot (talk) 01:00, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I took lots of photographs, including of the Park car. (I had a lower berth; I took pix of the berths while as couches and then assembled as beds.) I hope to add them to Commons by the weekend and then maybe someone can decide if any are useable for the article. - Kosboot (talk) 14:44, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the updates! Was it a good trip? Ground Zero (talk) 14:54, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was a wonderful trip. As a prelude to the trip I took the California Zephyr - and I think The Canadian edges out the US train for "total experience." Also, it had snowed lightly just a few days prior to traveling, so the dusting of snow on all the trees/plants/mountains made for exciting views. :) - Kosboot (talk) 18:17, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One thing I got a picture of: The crew cleaning the Skyline windows at the Jasper stop, so as to maximize the passenger experience. I don't think Amtrak ever cleans train windows. - Kosboot (talk) 20:37, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kosboot: Also, I think it will be useful if you could tell us how much we are expected to tip the sleeping car attendants and dining car servers. That is information we should also put in the Rail travel in Canada article. The dog2 (talk) 19:49, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The amount of a tip was a debate some of the passengers were having without resolution. I saw a well-dressed man in suit & tie - obviously from a private room or Prestige class - give one of the staff a $100 CAN bill. Remember that such a train will run the gamut from very economical to very affluent, so it's hard to estimate one's tip unless you're in the same class of ticket. I personally had an issue and three of the staff members went out of their way to help me (sorry that I wasn't carrying any cash at all, but I intend to write Via Rail and commend those staff members). I think you should not consider it an obligation, but give according to what feels comfortable to you depending on your budget. I did see staff (mostly on the Vancouver-Winnipeg leg) doing all that they could to make passengers feel comfortable and happy. - Kosboot (talk) 19:59, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

Maybe some of these pics could be used in the article. I'm not a great photographer, but I did capture a few things that might be helpful, perhaps for a gallery at the end of the article.
