Merger[edit]

This article should be merged into Battersea (Ontario):

  • There is no accomodation that I can find in Verona - just a campground 12 km away in Hartington
  • The K&P Trail is not unique to Verona
  • The Verona Festival was last held in 2015, and its website is now for sale
  • The Frontenac Farmers Market is held in Harrowsmith, not Verona
  • There are no other listings. Ground Zero (talk) 17:13, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Maybe I added the campsite, as a booking site gave the address as Verona, but I think that is stretching things. However Verona is about 20 miles from Kingston, 45 minutes drive, which at the limit of the distance to merge. AlasdairW (talk) 21:24, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But if the only legit listing for Verona is 12 km away in Hartington, should Verona have an article? An alternative would be to merge it into Battersea (Ontario), which is 31 km from Hartington, and which is also in South Frontenac township. Ground Zero (talk) 21:54, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if this is worth listing and I don't have time to investigate, but there is the Verona Car Show on 12 Aug 2018. AlasdairW (talk) 23:06, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I added the car show in the Festival listing, as it may be a successor event - same weekend and car festival is in 23rd year. I have also added two eat listings - there are other possible places to eat. There are also 5-10 shops in the centre of Verona. AlasdairW (talk) 21:21, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:AlasdairW has added listings, so now the article has everything that there is in Verona, which isn't much. I think it would be best to merge this and Battersea into a South Frontenac article to cover the whole merged township. Comments? Ground Zero (talk) 13:24, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Boundaries of a "city" or "region" in Wikivoyage do not necessarily match legal divisions—nations, provinces, and cities—as the latter are created by governments for administrative purposes, per Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy#Dividing geographical units and Wikivoyage:What is an article?#What does get its own article?. In this case, forcing the article boundary to align exactly with the w:South Frontenac, Ontario (pop. 18113) township line infers a separate article for w:North Frontenac, Ontario (pop. 1898) and w:Central Frontenac, Ontario (pop. 4556)... and I don't think we want these as this area is sparsely-populated and highly rural. The coverage area for a highly-rural area needs to be absurdly wide to produce an article of reasonable length, presumably centred on Sydenham or some point in the middle, and extending to at least everything in the county (except Kingston and the islands) or a bit beyond. I agree that we don't have to follow municipal boundaries, but we can if it makes sense. What is your recommendation? Ground Zero (talk) 18:09, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Result: no consensus to merge. Ground Zero (talk) 15:58, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Revisiting merger[edit]

I'd like to revisit the idea of merging this article with Battersea to form a South Frontenac article. Appears to make the most sense as none of these individual towns in the area have enough listings/attractions to fill out an article, but the region as a whole does. I can get started if agreeable.Thuegh (talk) 03:42, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose I think it is on the distance limits of places to merge when you consider how practical it would be to sleep in Battersea and eat in Verona. However I don't know the area and how quick the roads are. AlasdairW (talk) 22:23, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say any point in the area is within an hour of each other - not too dissimilar to a large city. Main roads in the area are all paved and decent. Most people traveling in the area/live in the area do expect to drive around quite often to go to different stores/attractions. The main sights in the area are the parks/conservation areas and people sleep and eat in the surrounding towns.Thuegh (talk) 00:24, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
