The salient point are not so much his own voyages but those that searched for him[edit]
In accordance with the headline, maybe we could retitle it On the trail of John Franklin or Franklin's lost expedition and the search for it or some such? Hobbitschuster (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm curently digesting content in order to write his history. It will come. Off this topic, it's a little annoying, every paragraph of historical travel that becomes longer than a screenful of text must become another whole article. I'm not very happy about this approach. There was consensus, John Rae really not merits an itinerary of his own, but his discoveries and influence towards Amundsen merit mention. - When I proposed the In the footsteps of explorers article, it met with resistance because "it would become too long". The way to deal with that is (a) branch off longer sections, and (b) not to duplicate what is in the branch articles. I find it weird to have:
- Paragraph about an explorer and link to branch article
- Paragraph about an explorer and link to branch article
- Paragraph about an explorer and a listing for one site
- Three paragraphs about an explorer, snap, two photos and three or four sites listed.
- It throws the article off-balance, and makes it look like the last explorer is more important than the others when, in fact, we have much more content on the first two explorers.
- When an article is branched off, all of the content is preserved, and I expand the content by adding more. In this case, I added a listing, a photo, and a little bit of non-exploration bio. I don't understand your objection to the most important explorers getting their own articles.
- I'm not that concerned about the name, except that I would't make it long, e.g. Franklin's lost expedition would be better.
- If the John Rae infobox should also be in the Amundsen article, then add it there too. Ground Zero (talk) 19:24, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, now, thanks to Wikipedia again, John Franklin's whole history is presented in a complete and succinct way. He is obviously a pompous and conceited and not very smart chap, when compared to Rae or Amundsen, and thus a boring study. That's why I was slow on developing it. The university's library is closed so I cannot consult Tim Severn or Samuel Eliot Morison as I would like. But eventually we will fill all the gaps. Let's take the time. Don't expect me to build up and finish Franklin, Cook, Amundsen and SIR FRANCIS DRAKE (shall he go on unmentioned in Age of Discovery?) :D in one day. Ibaman (talk) 19:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
