Template talk:Do
Add topicAdding a "Do" topic without specific information
[edit]I would want to add a "Do" topic to Pörtschach saying "Go swimming in the Wörthersee", because that's what I did when I last was there, and found it to be very pleasant. However, Wikivoyage presents me with a template asking me to fill in contact information including official websites and e-mail addresses, as well as opening times and prices. Lakes don't have these. Here in Finland, lakes are open for everyone to enjoy without charge, but I found out that in Pörtschach, the Wörthersee is so crowded that you can only go there if you have a reservation at a hotel. Provided this, the lake is open for your pleasure, as long as you don't venture to some other private property. How would I add this to the article? JIP (talk) 20:27, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- JIP, you don't need to use the listing template, if this is what you mean. I'd simply add a bullet point saying: * Go swimming in the Wörthersee and describe what you just described above with the hotel reservation. Alternatively, if you can provide coordinates of some good beach or bay, use template marker: Go swimming in the {{marker |type=do|name=Wörthersee|lat=xx |long=yy }}. Does this solve your problem? - A quick Google yields at least a URL link to an official tourist page for the lake. That could be used in a 'Do' listing. Also I'd want to know how to get to the lake, which the template also provides for. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:38, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- You don't have to fill all parameters. The template also gives you an "image=" field which can be useful to show what the beach/surroundings look like. Some people will probably find your swimming suggestion from the dynamic map (or a mashup of the same information) when they happen to be near the lake. A non-template bullet description would not appear in such mashups. Cheers! Syced (talk) 05:52, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Following on from what Syced said, feel free to not fill in all the fields. You might like to just make 'Lake Wörthersee' the name, add the location, official tourism website and then a description, including info about swimming and other activities. Although it's up to you what you think's best :) James A ▪ talk 07:31, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
