Site-wide deployment[edit]

PoiMap2 is fairly stable and has now been implemented throughout Wikivoyage by the {{tl:geo}} template, with coordinates sent as parameters to the wikivoyage-ev map server. Only thing to note is that we must be careful that new features added to the map server do not disrupt the basic lat/long functionality, and check whether the map server can handle the load. -- torty3 (talk) 04:07, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the application 'PoiMap2' there will be no problems with access. The capacity is more than sufficient. No tiles are stored on the WV-eV server. The access is directly to the provider servers (OSM, Mapquest etc.). There are however some limitations. OSM prohibits mass download of tiles, so that we have at present no problems (one access every 10 minutes). CloudMade provides 500,000 free tiles per month (30,000 Tiles / month now). Only Mapquest Open has neither restrictions nor costs claims. Therefore, it would be good to use the Mapquest-Open-layer as default layer in the future. -- Joachim Mey2008 (talk) 06:50, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, have no problems with Mapquest-Open and I do like their colour scheme and less cluttered look. They update their OSM data pretty quickly as well, compared to CloudMade. -- torty3 (talk) 08:23, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Layer[edit]

The layer control does not appear to work fully anymore. Cannot change the map to Mapquest open, which is more useful for region articles. I can add the option D to display destinations but cannot work out how to switch on Boundaries. --Traveler100 (talk) 16:25, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Traveler100, hi, we cannot allow non-WMF layer by default, because it would violate our privacy policy. IMO, I think the layer parameter should be removed so as not to confuse people. See here for the relevant discussion. --Yurik (talk) 00:46, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PoiMap2raw & Mapframe[edit]

Swept in from the pub

I am having various problems with the templates PoiMap2raw and Mapframe, and the problems vary depending on the browser used: IE, Edge (Windows 10 replacement for IE) and Chrome. In a previous topic, someone reported problems with PoiMap2raw. Thus, should I be using PoiMap2raw and Mapframe, or are there better substitutes? There are articles (i.e. Calgary, Markham) where PoiMap2raw could magnify a district within the city that has a cluster of sites and establishments. Thanks. I'd like to echo these comments. Do we have a fix for this/is it a known problem? In the Kenosha article, the map is isn't working on my computer. It's using the mapframe template and I'm using IE edge. It seems to not work for IE 10 and up. I switched to compatibility mode and it works for IE 9 and under. I've not been actively editing for awhile, so I don't know if there are any map updates/changes that have occurred in my absence. DethDestroyerOfWords (talk) 15:16, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am also finding the new in-page maps. As well as the restrictions listed in discussions above I am finding it unhelpful that when opening map from a listing number it does not center on that point, so in a large city you are non the wiser. It appears the project for new map has stalled, no response to issues listed, should we revert to the original version until the work on the new mapping tool is complete? I know wiki is a WIP type media but this does not mean we should move backwards on functionality. --Traveler100 (talk) 20:26, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Today, I find that PoiMap2raw works in both Edge and Chrome. Thanks! MapFrame works in Chrome, but in Edge, while the frame around the map area is drawn, the map area itself is still left blank.TheTrolleyPole (talk) 17:15, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
