Admin nomination

[edit]

I've nominated User:(WT-en) Cacahuate to become an admin; please comment on Project:administrator nominations when you have some time. --(WT-en) Evan 01:30, 6 January 2007 (EST)

Interesting bit

[edit]

I saw an article in the Guardian that I thought you might find interesting, especially since it kind of mixes two subjects that you and I share an interest in No religion and an end to war: how thinkers see the future. A quote: "Biologist Richard Dawkins said that physicists would give religion another problem: a theory of everything that would complete Albert Einstein's dream of unifying the fundamental laws of physics. "This final scientific enlightenment will deal an overdue death blow to religion and other juvenile superstitions."

This has perked my interest, mainly because I find it funny that this guy thinks his work will kill God. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 09:38, 10 January 2007 (EST)

Another interesting I've come across was a part of a series by Anderson Cooper of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360. In this series, titled "What is a Christian" Anderson is interviewing Dr. Francis Collins (The Human Genome Project guy) documents how he became a Christian. I find it really interesting because he starts off as an atheist, but ends up a believer because he started asking questions he didn't confront as a chemist. Anywho, here's the article. Peace. -- (WT-en) Sapphire(Talk) • 04:47, 5 April 2007 (EDT)

Autopatrol

[edit]

We've got a feature newly enabled on Wikivoyage called Project:Recent changes patrol, which puts a little red exclamation mark next to lines on Recent Changes that haven't been reviewed by an admin yet. Admins can set their changes to be "auto-patrolled", so that other admins don't have to check them. To do this, go to Special:Preferences, on the "Edit" tab, and select "mark my changes as patrolled". Thanks, --(WT-en) evanp 10:06, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Isn't socializing inherently an action? (WT-en) Cacahuate 09:23, 19 January 2007 (EST)

Wow, that sounds fantastic! I'm just heading home from a long trip, but still love spending time online dreaming about the next trip... and yeah, that could be an interesting travel topic... I've been thinking about starting Responsible tourism, it would be nice to see more topics about doing more than just visiting temples... and dealing with how travelers (can) change the world... Regarding Delhi....

[edit]

Hi Tim, First of all thanx a lot for your comments. You've made me feel a lot better, User:(WT-en) Jpatokal wrote some pretty harsh comments on my discussion page. I'd definitely like to write about Delhi (the article is in a bad state) and hopefully see it through to a guide, or even a star. But I think that Delhi should be split into a few divisions, it is currently the largest city in India (in area). I'd like your suggestions sice this is not going to be an easy task, Delhi is not officially divided into boroughs and terms like West and East Delhi sound pretty vague, even to a Delhiite. I was thinking along the following lines - 1. South Delhi 2. East Delhi (trans-Yamuna) 3. North Delhi 4. West Delhi 5. Central Delhi

Officially, however, Delhi is divided into 7 districts, however the names are not in common use. Let me know what you think on Talk:Delhi. Bye, (WT-en) Upamanyuwikivoyage 09:58, 24 January 2007 (EST)

That link to Shared is the result of Evan's OpenID/single sign-on work. I meant to make to my English account the "main" account that I use to sign-on to my accounts, but the instructions confused me.

Anyhow, if you have an account on the Swedish version of Wikivoyage and use that as your main single sign-on account the link will direct you to your Swedish user page. Does that make sense? -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 14:27, 24 January 2007 (EST)

By the way, I've got new philosophical questions if you're interested. You kind of answered one in your blog about Dawkins. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 15:25, 24 January 2007 (EST)

IB

[edit]

I can answer some of your questions. The merger/purchase of Wikivoyage took place on April 20, 2006, so IB already owns the domain, servers, and Wikivoyage name. The only thing were really waiting on is advertisements. -- (WT-en) Andrew H. (Sapphire) 16:06, 25 January 2007 (EST)

Image Aggreement

[edit]

The aggreement was mas over the phone, but my friend says that this airliners are used for baghdad, amman, tel-aviv and some other cities, he indicated that I can use it on travel guides or my brochures for those destinations. All I have is what I noted down from the phone conversation, is this sufficient? (WT-en) MiddleEastern 06:52, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Cambridge

[edit]

Tim, On the DOTM page you have said that Cambridge needs some MoS work. Can you give some examples of what you mean, because I can't see anything obvious. -- (WT-en) DanielC 16:53, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Ziarat

[edit]

The non-linking on the Ziarat page was deliberate (it's unlikely that those names are per the disambiguation and naming guidelines, and some may be duplicates) - if you've no objections, I think they should stay unlinked for now. ~ 61.91.191.4 19:33, 31 March 2007 (EDT)

Hi, with regards to the disambiguation page, the whole point of them is so that people understand that there are different places with the same name and click on the relevant one they want, so all places that are listed must be linked. If you don't think the listed places are in fact different places, then we should remove them from the disambiguation page. However, to be on the safe side, I think we should leave them linked - sooner or later someone will come along who will know and they will be able to clear up any confusion. For more info on disambiguation pages, please read this. -- (WT-en) Tim 11:45, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
That all places must be linked isn't true - for example, places that don't warrant an individual article all to themselves and which are covered by another article (which may well prove be the case here). ~ 61.91.191.10 12:09, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
We don't know they won't warrant individual articles to themselves at the moment... My feelings are that we should leave them all linked until someone who knows for definite comes along, but feel free to de-link them if you feel so inclined - this is a pretty minor issue in the grand scheme of things :) -- (WT-en) Tim 12:45, 1 April 2007 (EDT)
I generally err on the same side - if not certain that a place warrants an article, then link to it and see what happens. But in this (virtually unique) case, the page is only there because an article creation troll set the ball rolling, and having spent quite some time trying to confirm where these places really are and what their actual article names and isIn's should be, I'm confident that the information on that page is nowhere near definitive enough for "new page" links to be a good idea. ~ 61.91.191.10 13:20, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Care to comment before Ann Arbor is starred? (WT-en) cacahuate talk 22:47, 27 May 2007 (EDT)

Hey Tim, I spent about 4 days in Baku a couple years ago and barely scratched the surface of that long list of restaurants. But I was wondering, can we sort each price category by cuisine (e.g., Russian, Azeri, Georgian, International)? For me at least, that would make the list a lot more manageable. I'm sure this must have been discussed somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. --(WT-en) Peterfitzgerald Talk 14:16, 29 May 2007 (EDT)

Baku

[edit]

Tim, thanks for all of your work on the Baku page. I really hope that more people will come and start exploring Azerbaijan. As I am new to Azerbaijan, I do not know all of the sites in Baku, but I've added a couple more. Concerning the resturants, don't most of them already have prices on it? I will ask some Azeri friends for more information on things to do in Baku and then I'll post them up. I hope that you are doing well! (WT-en) Cupcakecommander 05:43, 30 May 2007 (EDT)

New search engine

[edit]

Could you test the new search engine on review (http://wikivoyage.org/review/Special:Search) and give your feedback on wts:WtTech:Lucene search? It's the search tool that Wikipedia uses, and I think it's going to be a good upgrade for us. --(WT-en) Evan 12:45, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

Image:Baku metro.png

[edit]

You might want to relicense Image:Baku metro.png as GFDL, so it can be used on Wikipedia as well big ol' meanie that I am, I've just VFD'd their copy of the old map as well. Great map though, is there an SVG version? (WT-en) Jpatokal 07:54, 14 June 2007 (EDT)

Done! and there's an .SVG file that I uploaded at the same time, there should be a link to it from the file description page on Shared. -- (WT-en) Tim (writeme!) 11:25, 14 June 2007 (EDT)

Indianapolis districts

[edit]

Sure I would guess something like: Westside/Speedway, Northside and Carmel, Southside and Greewood, Eastside, and Downtown. Those make the most sense to me. -(WT-en) Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 13:32, 14 August 2007 (EDT)

Vienna Metro map SVG?

[edit]
Bonjour!
I work on the English version of Wikivoyage, and we are currently doing some collaboration work on our travel guide to Vienna. We are already using your excellent map of the Vienna Metro, but I was wondering if you could upload the .svg source file so we make a few changes. For our travel guide, it would be useful for us to be able to add a few of the intermediate stations, and change the wording at the top to English. Of course any changes we make would still be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License and we would credit you as the original author.
Thankyou in advance, Tim 11.8.07

Hello Tim, thanx for your message on my discussion page of the french Wikipedia. I just looked for the SVC source of the map on my current computer, but didn't find it. I still have some hope on another machine, which I'll be able to check till next week. Could you please remind me again from Monday September 3rd? I'd be delighted if you could make an English version for WikiTravel from it; the very original source was not from me, but very old (initially on the German Wikipedia). So I updated it, but my version is now pretty outdated too ;-) too bad I didn't upload the svg file at the time. Hope to talk to you very soon; Witoki 28.8.07

splitting complex edits into several simple changes

[edit]

Hi Tim. I'm watching through your recent edits in Barcelona. I must admit that it's bit difficult to see what exactly was changed when you combine many changes into a single version (like this and this). May I ask you to split your future changes into more versions, so it's easier to follow your idea? I really believe it can help us to work more effectively. --(WT-en) DenisYurkin 17:23, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for that, Tsandell. Definitely something we should tackle before the site's public. JamesA >talk 16:29, 14 September 2012 (CEST)

Administrator status (Official Notice)

[edit]
A similar message was also sent via e-mail.

Thanks for your service as a Wikivoyage administrator. As you may be aware, our Wikivoyage:Administrators policy indicates that administrators who have not edited on the English Wikivoyage in over two years should have their administrator flags removed. This is for account security purposes, not a reflection of a loss of trust or any disappointment.

As such, we will be removing your administrator flag on 7 November 2018. Should you wish to retain your status, simply come on back and make an edit! That resets the clock. And if you ever decide to return to Wikivoyage as an active editor, your administrator flag can be restored by request.

If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.
