Swansea Images

You asked on my talk page:

I've just uploaded two images: 'Swansea Bay and University' and 'Mumbles Head and Swansea Bay'. They both need to go onto the Swansea article. The former on top, near 'Understand' and the latter next to the 'See' section. I cannot find how to move the images to the page. May I request your help? Thanks a lot. (WV-en) Windhorse 12 Jan 06

My reply

1. The images appear to have been scanned using the full platten of the scanner, not cropped to just the scan of the photograph.
2. When you put the images on the page they need to have the .jpg on the end.
3. The Project:Image policy suggests images be about 50 kb in size, so they download quicker.

Ok, so I downloaded your images and had a look at them in Photostudio. I can crop them down to the image, but the scans are dirty. Either the photos have dust on them or your scanner does. Your photographs need to have their images dusted. The scanner glass probably also needs a good clean with a soft lint free lens - cleaning cloth. When you scan again you should probably half the scanning resolution from 96 dpi to 48 dpi, and set the scanner software to only scan the photograph, not the whole scan plate. For some reason my uploads did not work. You may need to rescan your images and upload the new versions. They should be made smaller, by reducing the resolution and cropping the image to just the picture. Prefreably image files should be around 50kb not the 500kb they currently are. -- (WT-en) Huttite 03:16, 12 Jan 2006 (EST)

Some success at last - look at Image:SwanseaBayAndMumbles.jpg and Image:SwanseaBayAndUniversity.jpg. I have put these into Swansea. I still suggest you re-scan the original images to make them smaller. -- (WT-en) Huttite 03:48, 12 Jan 2006 (EST)

Kokkare Bellur / Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Hi Anurag. The articles that you are starting for bird watching sites in Karnataka look great, but if you could also include information about places to stay, eat or drink it would make the articles much more useable. Even if there are no such facilities, then it might be good to say so, then visitors can make prior arrangements - just a suggestion (WT-en) WindHorse

Eiheiji Temple

I moved Eiheiji Temple to Eiheiji, see Talk:Eiheiji Temple. I also corrected the spelling of Eiheiji (it was Eiheji). Please check this article as I changed the emphasis from th temple as a destination to the village as a destination with the temple as an attraction. See Project:What is an article.

Machan

Kanchanaburi

I think the "domestic" format you've used for the 'phone numbers is better, however Project:Phone_numbers says we're supposed to use the "international" format. My guess is that it won't stay that way forever, so...

Nobody seems to be able to say for sure exactly what the "Get out" section is/isn't for - I'd be tempted to leave Three Pagodas Pass there for now, but either way, I'll leave it in your capable hands, feel free to switch it back if you think that's the best way to go - cheers.

One other - the idea with mentioning both "Kanchanaburi Province" AND "Kanachanaburi" right at the top of the article is so that it acts as a kind of disambiguation - have a look at virtually all the other Thailand province articles.

Jaigon / Jaigaon

Here are my points regarding "Respect" in this article:

• Just giving two random factoids regarding religious practice doesn't do that practice justice. Getting into the "why" of the factoids could take more space than the format permits, but there should at least be a capsule, and there are other parts of the practice that could definitely use elaboration.
• There should certainly be some reference to the etiquette of photography in this area. It's alluded to in the Tengboche section, and that's all. The fact that the Khumbu has a (justified) reputation for being fabulously photogenic will move people to behave rather intrusively when taking candids of people and activities. If I were visiting for the first time, the etiquette of those would be one of the things I'd want most to understand right up front.
• I cannot believe that this article contains no reference to How to haggle.

Russian region names

I'm glad to see someone working on creating regions for Russia. I have a concern about the names, however. Names such as Far Eastern and Northern (Russia) are a bit awkward, and discouraged. OK, but we're not Wikipedia. :) We want articles for regions that make the most sense to the traveler, with names that make sense on their own. People don't go to a region called "Northern" that happens to be in Russia; they go to Northern Russia. They don't go to the "East Siberian" region in Russia, but to Eastern Siberia. The easiest way to change these is to use the "move" option at the top of the article; this will automatically create redirects. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 10:23, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
