Hello! It appears that you may be working for a hotel chain, so please be aware that due to conflict of interest concerns Wikivoyage has fairly strict rules about marketers adding information to the site - see Wikivoyage:Don't tout for the official guideline. To summarize: Wikivoyage should not be used as a tool for advertising or promotion. If you have questions you can ask them on this talk page or in the Pub. -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:21, 12 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that your contributions to Wikivoyage have all been reverted as they appear to be for marketing/promotional reasons. Again, I would ask that you please read Wikivoyage:Don't tout, which is the official site policy against use of Wikivoyage for advertising. -- Ryan • (talk) • 20:15, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please note that marketers should not add listings for properties which they are promoting to Wikivoyage. Continuing to do so may lead to this account being blocked from editing. -- Ryan • (talk) • 17:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hotel marketers, as you evidently are, are forbidden to add any new accommodation listings. Your account will be blocked today if you continue to add listings. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:11, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You have been duly blocked, this time for a day. Continued addition of accommodation listings will incur longer blocks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:44, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This time, your block is for 3 days. The next time you add an accommodation listing or otherwise tout, your account will be blocked for a week, then for 2 weeks, etc. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:47, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Duly blocked for a week, as you edited a listing in Hartford to tout. If you'd like to appeal, please post a reply, and it will be considered. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:33, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify: Your ability to post to this user talk page has not been affected by the block. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:40, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just edited our listing as it was going to a broken page (404). We were already on the page. So you blocked me because I made the page up to date and correct? —The preceding comment was added by 66.195.33.222 (talkcontribs)

I beg your pardon: I was offline for a week and a half, due to computer trouble and, regrettably, it doesn't look like anyone else saw your unsigned reply. I'll say, first of all, that I'm very glad to see a remark by you. Secondly, there were a number of things wrong with your edits, but they weren't so bad that I would have blocked your account if there hadn't been the previous history detailed on this page, and that's why I suggested for you to appeal. Just so you know, however, the three problems with this edit were that "East Hartford, CT hotel" smacks of SEO; "within walking distance to Downtown Hartford" is essentially location touting, under the definitions on this site, though not grossly so; and East Hartford is not in Hartford and has its own article, where this hotel could be listed, though not by a hotel marketer.
If I had seen your appeal earlier, I would have unblocked your account, but since the block has expired already, I will simply reset you to being blocked for a week and not two weeks the next time you list or tout — with the exception that now that you've finally participated in a discussion, if in my judgment the touting is not gross, I'll give you a chance to reply before, rather than after blocking your editing privileges next time. Hello, I recently had an edit removed for 'touting' and I feel unclear about what touting is. The hotel I added does belong this page and creates even more options for those who visit your site and are truly interested in finding out their options for hotels and other items while traveling. So how can I add it but not 'tout'? Should I just add the listing with no description? It seems like the issues is with the description more than the hotel? Is the correct? Thank you. —The preceding comment was added by 66.195.33.222 (talkcontribs)

Please read the WV:Don't tout guideline that has been referenced several times in this discussion. If you still have questions after reading that guideline you can ask them on this page. -- Ryan • (talk) • 17:57, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as Ryan said, the don't tout page makes clear what kinds of descriptions are fine and which are not. However, that same page also says that if you are paid to market hotels, you are not allowed to add any listings at all:
Because there is an inherent conflict of interest when someone is being paid for their edits, if you are working for a hotel chain, a marketing agency, or a similar organization then you may not add listings for that business to Wikivoyage articles.
