Redirect cycle[edit]

What about the RDF bread crumb menu?[edit]

Hi Evan,
If it's possible I would really like to have the bread crumb menue extention for a wiki project I'm working on.

Thanks-(WT-en) F16 06:21, 3 Feb 2006 (EST)

Categorizing and publicizing Shared[edit]

The consensus on Shared seems to be that Wikipedia-style categories are the way to go. Would it be possible to enable this and publicize the Shared repository more widely, so we can really start using it? It's kind of stuck in limbo now. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:21, 4 Feb 2006 (EST)

Sounds great. I'm in Portland this morning and in the air this afternoon and evening, but I'll see if I can twiddle it tomorrow morning. --(WT-en) Evan 11:47, 5 Feb 2006 (EST) 11:46, 5 Feb 2006 (EST)

French mailling list[edit]

Hi Evan,
You asked me to be one of the admistrators of the French mailing list. That's OK, I'll do the job. Regards, (WT-en) Julien 11:02, 5 Feb 2006 (EST)

Problem with { {isIn} }[edit]

Hi Evan!

Why doesn't the "{ {isIn|Norway} }" work in the Østfold article? Is it because of the special character "Ø"?

Yes, it's the special character. I don't know why it happens, but an initial non-ASCII character seems to throw the RDF parser off. I'm going to see if I can tweak it. --(WT-en) Evan 22:52, 6 Feb 2006 (EST)

Swedish Wikivoyage[edit]

Hi Evan, you have an answer on my Talk page! How's it going with the changes I e-mailed you? Best Regards (WT-en) Riggwelter 03:25, 7 Feb 2006 (EST)

I haven't started, but it looks like you've been doing some interface work. Do you still want me to work on it? --(WT-en) Evan 18:38, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)

IRC/Jabber... etc.[edit]

I'm not on any kind of IM at the moment, but should be on Google/Jabber shortly. -- (WT-en) Mark 15:29, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)

I'm glad you popped into #wikivoyage on freenode; it seems to be becoming a fun channel. We should do it more often. --(WT-en) Evan 18:32, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)
Agreed. I'll try to sign on evenings. -- (WT-en) Mark 03:50, 11 Feb 2006 (EST)

Spam blacklist[edit]

Hi Evan, there have been several cases of spam appearing on Talk:Zurich, Talk:Taipei and others today. In each case, the spam that appeared was already listed on the Project:Local spam blacklist, so something seems to be amiss. -- (WT-en) Ryan 17:59, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)

Possibly related -- I can't edit New York (city) because of a link to **lfordplaza.com, which is already on the whitelist. (Also, can't mention the name of the site here either.) (WT-en) Jonboy 11:07, 13 Feb 2006 (EST)
Yes, all related. Should be fixed now, thanks for the heads-up. --(WT-en) Evan 11:33, 13 Feb 2006 (EST)
Thanks! (WT-en) Jonboy 11:41, 13 Feb 2006 (EST)

Spam whitelist[edit]

Hi Evan, another spam filter issue. Can you take a look at Project:Local spam whitelist#Casinos? Even if I completely remove all text from the "On the Strip" section of the Las Vegas article the spam filter is triggering and telling me that "casion (dot) com" is spam, despite the fact that that text appears nowhere in the edit. Thanks! -- (WT-en) Ryan 01:17, 17 Feb 2006 (EST)

(WT-en) Colin added a HTML comment in one of the URLs, and trying the same I'm now able to save the section within Las Vegas. However, I would still compose songs in your honor were the bug that prevented the page from originally being saved ever to be solved. Be warned that I'm no Bob Dylan... -- (WT-en) Ryan 02:41, 17 Feb 2006 (EST)
I wish I could solve it, but in the interim I've just disabled the (upstream) regex that causes the problem. --(WT-en) Evan 19:39, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)

{{related|Badlands}}[edit]

Tried to add {{related|Badlands}} to Badlands and Black Hills and it didn't work for some reason. Could it be because they both start with the same name? -- (WT-en) Tom Holland (xltel) 17:21, 21 Feb 2006 (EST)

No, it was because I screwed up all the RDF stuff pretty bad, trying to make it work better. Sorry for the temporary mixup; it should be working now. --(WT-en) Evan 17:32, 21 Feb 2006 (EST)

License[edit]

I notice Image:Krishna butter ball.jpg is licensed with cc-bysa 2.0. If we're allowing content other than 1.0, that's news to me. Specifically, you might want to check out vfd where I've nominated at least one cc-bysa 2.0 image as being incompatible with our license and maybe explain it there. -- (WT-en) Colin 21:51, 21 Feb 2006 (EST)

OK, I will. Here's my feelings: I think that public domain and cc-by 1.0 and 2.x licenses are compatible with cc-by-sa 1.0, in that you can combine PD or cc-by works into a cc-by-sa 1.0 work, and the distributor of the new work can still comply with the license. For a cc-by image, we need to give attribution to the upstream author. Since that's part of the cc-by-sa 1.0 anyways, it doesn't seem to be incompatible with our license. Licenses that have requirements that aren't also in cc-by-sa 1.0 would probably be Not OK, though. In a mathematical sense, if the set of requirements of the upstream license is a subset of the set of requirements of CC, then we don't have a problem. That's my fuzzy thinking on the matter. --(WT-en) Evan 19:57, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)

PD Images from Wikipedia[edit]

I found some images on Wikipedia of Oklahoma City (example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Okc.jpg) that have been released to the Public Domain by user Tosei. Is it okay to use these on Wikivoyage? -- (WT-en) Tom Holland (xltel) 16:30, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)

Yes. "released to the public domain" means you can take the picture and use it as if you owned all rights to the copy. If you modify it, you own all rights to the derived work and can relicense the derived work under whatever restrictive license you please. See WikiPedia:Public Domain. -- (WT-en) Colin 17:04, 22 Feb 2006 (EST)

Just a friendly reminder that more than 14 days have gone by since (WT-en) Maj nominated (WT-en) Tom to be an admin, and according to the policy since there haven't been any objections he's due to have some bits flipped. -- (WT-en) Ryan 14:58, 26 February 2006 (EST)
