Categorizing and publicizing Shared

The consensus on Shared seems to be that Wikipedia-style categories are the way to go. Would it be possible to enable this and publicize the Shared repository more widely, so we can really start using it? It's kind of stuck in limbo now. (WT-en) Jpatokal 23:21, 4 Feb 2006 (EST)

Problem with { {isIn} }

Why doesn't the "{ {isIn|Norway} }" work in the Østfold article? Is it because of the special character "Ø"?

Yes, it's the special character. I don't know why it happens, but an initial non-ASCII character seems to throw the RDF parser off. I'm going to see if I can tweak it. --(WT-en) Evan 22:52, 6 Feb 2006 (EST)

Spam blacklist

Spam whitelist

Hi Evan, another spam filter issue. Can you take a look at Project:Local spam whitelist#Casinos? Even if I completely remove all text from the "On the Strip" section of the Las Vegas article the spam filter is triggering and telling me that "casion (dot) com" is spam, despite the fact that that text appears nowhere in the edit. However, I would still compose songs in your honor were the bug that prevented the page from originally being saved ever to be solved. License

I notice Image:Krishna butter ball.jpg is licensed with cc-bysa 2.0. If we're allowing content other than 1.0, that's news to me. Specifically, you might want to check out vfd where I've nominated at least one cc-bysa 2.0 image as being incompatible with our license and maybe explain it there. -- (WT-en) Colin 21:51, 21 Feb 2006 (EST)

OK, I will. Here's my feelings: I think that public domain and cc-by 1.0 and 2.x licenses are compatible with cc-by-sa 1.0, in that you can combine PD or cc-by works into a cc-by-sa 1.0 work, and the distributor of the new work can still comply with the license. For a cc-by image, we need to give attribution to the upstream author. Since that's part of the cc-by-sa 1.0 anyways, it doesn't seem to be incompatible with our license. Licenses that have requirements that aren't also in cc-by-sa 1.0 would probably be Not OK, though. In a mathematical sense, if the set of requirements of the upstream license is a subset of the set of requirements of CC, then we don't have a problem. PD Images from Wikipedia

Yes. "released to the public domain" means you can take the picture and use it as if you owned all rights to the copy. If you modify it, you own all rights to the derived work and can relicense the derived work under whatever restrictive license you please.
