Hello, Great Brightstar! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

Good to see another editor in China. Do you have any comment at Talk:East_China? --Saqib (talk) 16:09, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I have no comment at Talk:East_China, I am more concentrate on Chinese Wikivoyage for the moment, which is still in Wikimedia Incubator. --Great Brightstar (talk) 16:24, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Templates[edit]

You've been creating (or, I guess, moving from Wikipedia?) a lot of templates lately. Please read Wikivoyage:Using MediaWiki templates, which is Wikivoyage policy. Here's an illustrative excerpt:

In general, a template should be discussed prior to being created or modified. In some cases templates can be confusing for new users, and having large numbers of templates that perform similar functions is counter-productive. Be aware that problems such as difficulty in transferring templates to other formats (such as print or PDF), attribution issues, and maintainability may all be considerations that could make a template a non-ideal solution.

Before a new MediaWiki template is put into general use it needs to be discussed and accepted as good or preferably best practice. Until such acceptance, new templates will be tagged {{experimental}}, and should not be added to more than one low-visibility article—so not Paris. (If other editors object to that addition, though, expect it to be removed until a consensus is reached.) If new templates fail to gain community support, they will eventually be deleted.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:19, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your digging up, I will tagging the notice right now. -- Great Brightstar (talk) 03:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but also, please keep in mind that templates steepen the learning curve for new users, so unless they are really essential, they might be best not imported here. Whole bunches of templates have previously been deleted here for that reason. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:33, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changing pagebanners[edit]

Hi. I appreciate that you added a new banner to Riga, but I reverted the change because changes of pagebanners should be proposed on the talk page of the article in question (in this case, Talk:Riga). So please make the proposal and see what others think. If a consensus gets behind the proposed change, it will be made.

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:08, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Previous discussion: Talk:Riga#Alternative_banner_for_this_article? Pashley (talk) 03:34, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Pashley. I hadn't noticed that Great Brightstar posted to that discussion, but I don't see a consensus yet, so let's talk more. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:48, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
