Hello, RVRoadie! Thank you for contributing to Wikivoyage, but please note that one or more of your recent edits has been reverted as it appeared to be an attempt to use this site to advertise or promote a business or service. Wikivoyage is created by travellers for travellers, and while business owners and employees are welcome to contribute, use of this site for promotional purposes is not allowed.

If you feel that your edits were incorrectly identified as promotional, please read Wikivoyage's guidelines on identifying promotional edits. If, after reading that guideline, you still feel your edits were incorrectly removed, please use this talk page or the talk page of the article where your edit was removed to explain why your change was not promotional. Note that it is very important that you discuss your proposed change before re-adding it since repeated promotional edits can lead to a temporary block of your account's ability to edit Wikivoyage, and in serious cases the business in question may be blacklisted from Wikivoyage. Answering to your specific question, please read our policy about External links, with attention to the section "What not to link to". All the best, Ibaman (talk) 18:22, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have used Wikipedia for many years (never edited), and just recently discovered the Wikivoyage site. We travel extensively, and were pleasantly surprised at how useful it is for many of the European cities that we visit.

I don't think it is promotional, but I could be wrong. The Villages is a huge retirement community with nearly 2,000 clubs that are run by Village residents. The Villages Gourmet Club (I am a member) that I linked to is just one of these clubs. With 90+ restaurants in The Villages, many come and go and are constantly changing. This club keeps current on the restaurants that are actually in this area. It is a sanctioned club by The Villages Recreation Department, so in that sense it is 'official'. It is not run for any commercial purposes. Here is a link to the official list of clubs in The Villages (125 pages). I was thinking of putting this link, along with a general description of clubs, in the Do section.

As you can see, there is very little useful information on this page. I was thinking of expanding it over time.

Let me know what you think.

  • Well, quoting from our policy:

"Avoid linking to secondary sources - for example, avoid links to:

Hotel or travel booking services or aggregators/Nightlife guides/Restaurant guides".

Speaking for our community, we'd much rather see you transcribing names/addresses/geo references/phone numbers/primary sites about these businesses, than just posting a single link to a single aggregating website. All the best, Ibaman (talk) 19:01, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I think I get it. Before I make any more changes, I thought I'd check first. I looked over the Mount Dora, FL page and the Disney World page. Both link the name on the page to their respective web sites, the City of Mount Dora, and Walt Disney World. One government, one commercial. Can I do that at the top of the page, for example: The Villages This is the commercial web site of the developer of The Villages and describes all there is to do in The Villages, much like the WDW site does. There is no government web site promoting The Villages. I would then write up a general description of The Villages.

Thanks.

I added two transportation links to the Getting Around section. I think I should have used the [add listing] feature, but I didn't know how to created it for this section, like it is in the Sleep section. Can you fix that for me? Thanks. —The preceding comment was added by RVRoadie (talkcontribs)

For future reference: For listings that don't fit under the "See", "Do", "Eat", "Drink" or "Sleep" categories, there's the script "i" button to the left of "Listings" and the other listings icons just above your edit screen. When you press that, you get a generic category: "Listing".
Also, as a general point, please sign every post you make on a talk page, including your own user talk page, by typing 4 tildes (~) in a row. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:25, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tried to add banner picture[edit]

I replaced the default.jpg with the Image: data from Commons. But the whole banner disappeared. What did I do wrong? —The preceding comment was added by RVRoadie (talkcontribs)

Try reading Wikivoyage:Banner Expedition#How do I help? and see if that answers your question. If not, you might want to post to that page's talk page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:25, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tried to add internal link[edit]

I tried to add an internal link to wikipedia by using wikipedia:Community Development Districts|Community Development Districts

It didn't work, so I made it an external link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Development_District.

What did I do wrong? RVRoadie (talk) 00:46, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, please sign all contributions to talk pages with four times "this ~" symbol (sometimes called the "tilde"). In addition for reasons that I am the wrong person to ask about, Wikipedia links are only used very rarely here. Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:51, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia links are external links in any case. Internal links are within Wikivoyage. Please read WV:Links to Wikipedia. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:24, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
